Good job. Getting an aftermarket tranny filter is way cheaper than the dealer part. Amazon and rockauto have good prices.
They should have made this filter bigger and eliminated the internal filter.

thanks--excellent diy write--best I've seen on things recently!!

send PM with thread link to Kris-fsttyms1, for distribution and review among the mods,
then it will get assigned to the actual DIY section and you will be famous! or infamous~

would be interesting to cut open the old filter and see what the crud buildup looks like

Do you keep up with dw-1 fluid change every year or ???

many auto shops have the old school cutting wheel to open filters
It scores a line then snaps case open, so no scraps of metal from cutting open get added

similar to what a plumber may have,,if one lives on your street
ask to borrow their pipe cutter

While you have the air box tube/snorkel to TB removed:
Its a good plan to clean the air plate inside TB throat
carb cleaner or deep creep are excellent for the job
Open throttle to access rear side and edges of round plate
get as clean as possible but dont go mental as it will get dirty again

Wipe up excess runoff, car will run bad for a minute after start
but will clear as residual cleaner gets sucked thru

clean throttle return springs with carb cleaner and lube with wd40 or silicone spray
deep creep (seafoam aerosol) will clean and Lube the hinge pin and return springs with one product, it leaves behind a lubricant

And while the plastic engine cover is off, under 10 bucks will get you a new PCV valve, fits in rear valve cover
clogged, will make car run funny,,and they do clog!

ATF was changed about 4k miles ago.. Throttle looks clean.. BTW, car currently has 220k miles.

I saved the filter so I can open it, funny how you mentioned it Didn't have time to cut it open, was also working on my NA1 EPS module and refinish the Civic main relay.

I'll cut open the filter tomorrow when get home from work.

Looks like it's doing its job. But that filter is so tiny, that it should be changed more often....otherwise it will clog up and go in bypass mode. I change mine once a year.

sockets are 10mm and 12mm. the wrench necessary for the filter nut is BIG - I had to use a crescent wrench.

Rebuilt tranny on 2001 tl done in 2005.

Just did a 3x3 transmission flush dw-1 and replaced the transmission filter, it made a very big difference/smoother shifting.

The old filter inside probably looked something like your pic.

Ha, wish I would have found this thread before I swapped out the trans on my 00 TL for an 05 odyssey trans. Didn't even think to replace the filter as I was switching the assembly over. btw the pics were an awsome help... used them to double check that all of my conections and hoses were hooked up in the right place lol. Though, after seeing the cut away of the filter, definatly re tearing down enough to replace it.

I'v done this last Saturday. I didn't remove the battery, there is enough room to access the bracket bolts with air cleaner assembly out. Took me about 20 minutes with clean up.

Hey SIL3NCEorD3ATH, ya might as well save your money for replacing the old worn out tranny, IMO.
Check out the threads on the '06>'07 Accord V6 tranny as a donor replacement for the best overall value and dependability.

Does any fluid come out when you unbolt the input line or when you spin the filter off??
How much? do I need to worry about trying to catch the fluid in something as to not make a mess?

there is fluid in the filter when you remove it. Just put some rags underneath. I did the filter and fluid change this weekend and it isn't that hard. I just removed the intake and followed the instructions from closetprisioner. The only thing I did differently was to replace the o-ring on the input line. There is a schematic diagram if you search 2004 honda odyssey : AT ATF PIPE (5AT).

Thank you for the info and detailed pix on the transmission filter. Did replace mine yesterday and without your very helpful demo, I would not even have known that such exists.

After some looking around, i found that bolt.
For those, like me, who are looking for this 5th both, here it is.
Loosening this bolt will help you move the transmission line, connected to the back of the ATF filter.

But amazon.com seems to say, this does not fit my car. Pls confirm this fits.
I was wondering if this one fits as well since Amazon says it does NOT. I just want to make sure I don't buy the wrong thing since I'm on a tight budget. I'll check for other ones as well because I'm sure the right one is out there. If anyone has answered this, I apologize but I haven't seen the answer. Again, thanks for any help!

Hmm.. I'm surprised to see that you don't have an oil jet kit. I thought those were installed per warranty?

@bellssn690 that looks exactly like the one I put in my car a few months ago.

^ The post 05s trans had the oil jet kit built in... So there isn't an external Jet Kit on those.
The Jet Kit was installed on the Original Design Trans, Some replacement 05s trans were incorrectly installed with the Jet Kit since the original design trans had it on them.

Hi everyone. I just performed this and everything went well. I added about a quart of the ATF fluid back at the fill port and I took it for a test drive and all went well BUT, I noticed that the "maint req'd" idiot light flashes and then it'll go out. If I crank it again, the light flashes again. Is there something I need to do to clear it? Do I need to count the number of flashes for a certain code? Did I screw something up? (lol) Thanks for any help!

Check the transmission fluid level.
From what i have read, the level should be between the 2 dot, too less and too much is not good. someone else can verify this.

How to Reset the "Maintenance Required"

Push the Select and Reset switch at the same time, trun the ignition switch ON (II), and hold them more than 10 seconds

i dont know what that is. should i be worried about it?
thats the reason could not locate that bolt, as i was not able to find that hose on top of the ATF fill port, in my car.
