2000 Acrua TL - low beam lights

I went on e-bay and thought I was buying low beam halogen headlights to replace the original ones that came on my car. BUT what I really bought was this:

ACURA D2R HID HEADLIGHT LOW BEAM BULBS 12000K/35W BLUE

Fitment: D2C/D2R/D2S_12000K
Part: HIDBD2C-12K-301

Compatible Reference: This item replace light bulbs model/type D2, D2C, D2S, D2R, 85122, 85122+, 85123, 85126, 85126+, OSRAM 66040, 66050
Package Included: One Pair (Set of two) Xenon HID Light Bulbs. 100% Brand New Factory Package
Direct Replacement Design (Plug in & replace OEM factory HID headlamp light bulbs)
Flicker-Free Performance, 3200 Lumen, 35W/85V (HID Headlamp Power Standard)

So - do I have to get a HID kit to use them? If so what kind of kit? Can I have the mechanic just change out the "low beam" lights only. I am a girl so I don't do my own work but if I can use these on my car I would like to ask the mechanic if he can put the kit on - I think the kit comes with the lights - either way I will have an extra set for future use.
Thanks for any help!

Ok, our car COMES with HID bulbs. No kit is necessary. BUT you bought 12000k. Stock is 4300. You will be loosing a LOT of usable light and be blue to purple in color. See if you can return them and get something closer to the stock 4300k

as said above- return those bulbs as they are not even close to street legal--or street useable,,,car show only type color

4300K is stock, 5000k is a nice upgrade, anything over 6 is a waste of money
k= kelvin, a color scale of abilty to differentiate objects ..on the road
3000 yellow, 5000 midday sun blue, 8000 purplish etc

the correct HID bulbs will plug right in,,there are different last letter designations, depending on your year

BUT
if you have any moisture in the headlight lens, you do need a kit to replace those soon to fail or already failed parts
www.hidextra.com `kit` for 59$ is a steal !! and in use by many of us
has everything you need to install and fix the problem

your local tech can do it in less than 2 hours,,including a long coffee break

Thanks!

I thought the 2000 Acura TL came with the "Halogen" and these lights says they are HID Xenon lights. That is why I asked if we could use them. The ONLY choices for lights are 6000K 8000K 10000K 12000K and 30000K.

Can I still use the 6000K? These were only $15.99 so that too made me believe I could not use them on the 2000 Acrua TL since the ones I looked up at Autozone were $99 each!

Please let me know if I an use the HID Xenon light.

Yes you absolutely can! Just go with the closest temp to 4,300 you can.

And they work alright, but the reason they are so cheap is likely that they are inferior in quality to Philips or Osram.

for 15,, bucks I would throw them away and get a set of 5000s
you will be much happier when its really dark roads or bad weather
I thought 6000 was awesome, till I dropped a 5000 into one side of my TL to compare on the road
5000--winner

see the place suggested above or www.hidextra.com--one of our sponsoring vendors--they claim bulb quality comparable to both big name makers-
all I know is its a very bright clean light = I can see way more with

why are they so cheap??,,the distribution line forms there,,as in they sell to others who jack up the price
they also sell on ebay

with our cars history of water in housing prob leading to crudded ballast circuit,
if you need bulbs now- you may as well replace everything with aftermarket and be done with it..for way less than 1 bulb at dealer
waterproof, compact- mounts easily- can even leave stock parts in place--
remote mount the ballast to frame rail

Thanks everyone!

I just wanted to make sure the HID Xenon are the right king that goes with my 2000 Acrua TL. Since my car is 12 years old I don't think its a water problem with the light going out. I just figure its time to change them out and didn't want to pay the $99 (for one bulb) at Auto Zone so when I went on e-bay and found those for $15.99 I figured it was worth a try. The reason too why I will just go ahead have them installed is because if it is a ballast problem then I will replace whatever it is I have to replace and then I will get either the 4300K or 5000K bulbs.

THANK you guys so much. My son is mechanically inclined and I know we can install them to save $$. If all else fails my mechanic is pretty good on his prices and I trust him not to take advantage of me.

Have a wonderful day everyone! PS - When I get the replacement lights - the 6000K ones, I can't get the 5000K because they don't offer them, I will let you know if it was just the bulb or ballast. If its the ballast then I will need your help again to see what it is I need to do.

This thread has all the information I needed as well. One of my lights went out and autozone wanted $100 for the BULB only lol. F that. Just to be clear, the kit from www.hidextra.com is what everyone has gotten? It's listed at $69.99 now which is still great especially for TWO bulbs and ballasts.

When installing the " conversion kit " bought from www.hidextra.com do you have to splice into the power cord or are the plugs compatible? Thanks in advance

35 watt is stock
5000k bulbs closest to stock

cut power leads at connector to headlight housing
splice 2 leads for each ballast/low beam to wires from new ballast
done
