03TL-S: Trans Flush vs Drain & Fill

I'm at 78k and my transmission seems to buck between gears when i'm @ low speeds and downshifting. i dont use the ss and think its time to replace the trans fluid. my car was serviced @ 40k by the dealer for 2nd gear replacement. my question is.. should i go flush/fill or drain/fill? w/honda trans fluid? is there better fluid to make the shifts cleaner? are there additives i should put in?

Honda does NOT want you to flush. Drain fill. The 3x3 is just that, Drain 3 quarts, fill then drive to mix. Repeat 3 times.

i ended up draining & filling w/ 325mL BG ATF & the rest w/the z1. i'll do the 3x3 in a couple of months but for now.. its got much smoother shifts.

question: should i replace w/OEM mounts or are there upgraded engine mounts that would benefit more?

I had the same problem just about a month ago. My car has double the mileage of your car though. It shifted hard. I did the drain and fill much better shift though now sometimes it slightly bucks at low speeds.

I have 162K + on my 00 TL.
I drain & fill almost 3 qts w Honda ATF every 5k miles simultaneously w my full synthetic only engine oil change.
It worked well on me so far so thats what I recommend.

i've got 170k on mine, original trans. DO NOT ATTEMPT to have the transmission flushed, or you will blow out your seals and have to get a new transmission. My dad's friend has a MDX that he took into a (ignorant) mechanic who flushed it... $2,600 later he's back on the road. Also shifting hard might be the trans shift solenoid or possible the filter screen on the solenoid is clogged. My screens were totally clean but replacement of the solenoid smoothed out my park -> reverse and 1st to 2nd shifts

I am just glad to read your post knowing my original engine & transmission have at least a chance to reach 200k miles. What kind of maintenance do you have for your transmission or maybe related after market parts you have installed.
Appreciate some pointers.

I use Amsoil ATF for my last drain and fill. I try and do it about every 30K miles and then try and do it again....

Sorry to jack your thread but just a quick question. I've got 147k Miles on my 2000 TL now (tranny replaced at 90k) I want to do the Drain and Fill,I remember back when this would still cause problems, what do ya'll think? I'm about to move from Oregon to Texas and don't want to take any chances in the desert, haha.

If it's a 5sp then there are 4 three way shift solenoids, two on top next to the bell housing underneath coolant hose, 1 tan and 1 black connector. 2 other one are right below the starter same color, black and tan connector. Black ones always on top, don't get mix up, it will shift backward. Both black connector solenoids are the same, and both tan one are also the same.
This pic is from an 02 CL type S 5sp auto, they locate above and below the stater hole.
