Rebuilt my system, added PS2, 910DVD and a PC! PICS!

My buddie picked up a KVT-915DVD so i decided to buy his 910DVD from him. After the install, i realized i had no space and everythign was so FUCKED that the car simply shifting the wrong way was going to fry something. The wadd of cables floating around in the trunk was unreal. So i got pissed off and ripped EVERYTHING out. Heres what it looked like after i did that:

And thats just a small sample. It looked SOOOO bad. So i built a box and moved a bunch of shit around, picked up some cable, and did it right. So heres my own personal custom box all done, I added a Play Station 2, and hell, i even added a frikin computer to the scenario. Everything works great and Thursday i go in for a custom dash plate and a flush mount panel in the trunk to make it look pretty. Now i can finally say im done with my sound system! WOO HOO!!!!

hows the computer set up to run? does it start up with the car or do you have to open the trunk and start it up every time?

Download winamp, it has much better plug-ins then media player. Install milkdrop and geiss, those would look sick in a car.

Yeah, shes dropped a little farther. Have Comptech springs, the car used to have the raked look, but thats gone now.

The BIOS has the "Last State" setting to "Power On" so whenever the computer looses power (I.E., shut the car off) then gets it back (turn car on) the computer turns on and comes out of hibernation. To shut it down i rigged a power switch up front. The DC->AC inverter does not give enough clean power to use a UPS and smart signaling otherwise i would do that, but this is fine with me.

Yeah i am a little concerned about the vibrations killing the hard drive, but we will soon see how well she holds up.

just to give you a heads up...when I got my subs, my NAVI really started screwing up - I think the subs screwed with the Hard Drive...I got a new solid state drive (flash memory) and all is good. Maybe you should try to isolate or protect the computer some, cause I know that W7 hits as hard or harder than my 2 12W3V2's....good luck though

Yeah, I would defintly try to sheild the cpu, the magnet on the sub is probably huge. It'll F up your hard drive.

How did you run the cables up front? I am planning on adding a PC to the car too. How do you get it to power up as u power the invertor for it?

Yeah but the problem is, how do i protect/insulate the computer without causing a thermal issue? i suppose i could cover the thing in dynamat, but that might not be good enough. I dunno, we will have to see just how fucked the hard drive gets and go from there.

The brain for the 910DVD is in the back, so audio and video didnt have to be run. The power comes from a DC->AC inverter thats also mounted in back, tapping its power form the distribution blocks of the amps (different ground tho, to prevent feedback) so nothing to run there, and the keyboard and mouse is wireless, so i didnt run any calbes for the computer to the front.

But i do have the power, antenna, HU harness, speaker wire, and a few other things running from front to back. It was tough but it all seems to fit just fine.

If you need some good gps software for it, try MapPoint 2004 and then there is an addon. Mapquest + with auto recalc when off course, it plots, it speaks.

Might want to look into how Home Theater speakers are magentically shielded. It must be either a covering on the case or something on the magnet. Most likely something on the case.....perhaps some sort of metal attached to one of the walls. Hard Drives are magentically base, thats how data is stored on them so if it comes into contact with another magnet, shits gonna get erased. Ever put a floppy on a speaker??

i had all the parts for the PC laying around... its nothing special. The DC->AC inverter was $60, and that was really the only expense.

DC->AC inverter powers the PC, the PC has a tv out connector on the video card, so video and audio out of the PC goes in to the AV IN of the KVT-910DVD, and thats it.

totall cost was $60 really..
