Pillar Covers

I'm thinking of getting some pillar covers, but I'd like to see how they'll look on the car.

Post 'em up if you have 'em!

If they are chrome they'll look ghetto, if they are carbon fiber, they'll look rice. If they are body color they might look good though. :twocents:

I did a search and I couldn't find anything.

I agree about the chrome, I'd rather just have black again. CF could be cool, but I don't know how it would look with my paint.

Went by a shop today, they quoted my $60 each, plus labor. So.. about $110 a piece. F that!

I didn't think about a junkyard. I'll have to look into that. Do I just look in the phone book and start calling them? Or is there some wonderful junkyard website I don't know about?

Dude - I just searched this site and there are 26 threads with pillar in the title. The 2nd one is by SSMTL01 where he's selling overlays - give it a try - it may be an easy fix.

sand down ur original pillars and paint them black and re-clear them. look better than the crappy vinyl off the showroom.

You have another way of doing it, which I did, it's a quick fix.

Take 1000 Grit Paper, Wet Sand, It will take off the clear coat of the pillars
Take 1500 Grit Paper, Wet Sand, It will start to smooth out the pillar
Take 2000 Grit Paper, Wet Sand, It will finish the smoothing process.
Take Plastic X Liquid, and a buffer, BUFF the damn thing out..

You can modify the steps, if you would like, and even add paint. I didn't paint them yet, but I didn't want to see the clear coat of the old pillars any more. This gives the pillars a smooth black finish ( not a glossy one ). You have a dull reflection of yourself, but it will do for right now. It does look BETTER though overal, but painted will be best.

Only picture I have right now:

I'm wondering if you took a rubbing compound followed by some wax/polish if you would get any shine back... I would do this, especially because with dark windows it looks even worse, but I don't know if I would like the flat black.

Well, since you did mention it, I did forget something, After all the sanding paper, I applied turtle wax, and then plastic X. Thanks! There is a reflection, but not like a crazy one ( or stock I should say ).

I'll be using this on my pillars this spring.
