Pics of El Cheapo Auto Shift Knob Mod
Economic times are hittin' hard these days, so I decided to go cheap. Tired of yanking our tall knob like a school bus (exaggerating), I decided to shave off half the threads for a lower look. Lower = Better...
Careful not to shave off too much. I cut it pretty close.

1.) I turned on car and pull shift knob all the way back to the last position 1-2.
2.) I took a small tape measure and measured the gap between the bottom of the knob and the top of the shift gate plate.
3.) I unscrewed the knob by twisting it counterclockwise.
4.) I took the measurement I got from step #2 and measured from the top of the exposed shift "stick" the same measurement and marked it with some masking tape. For me, it was pretty much EXACTLY half the THREADS. (NOT HALF THE STICK). If your knob is pretty loose, I would probably not shave off as much just to be on the safe side. It would suck if you ended up having a loose knob+not being able to shift to the 1-2 position.
5.) Took a small hacksaw and sawed off at the marked point. Doesn't take too much effort. Just take it easy and slowly so you don't end up sawing up part of your car haha. Put a towel to guard the other interior parts if you want to guard against accidents.
6.) Screwed the knob back on. It's pretty fool proof and if your knob is like mine, it'll be pretty tight at the end... so there's like one or two revolutions of leeway to raise and lower it and still be real tight... (sounds like I'm talking about coilovers hahaha)
