Well i did this mod today on my 1999 tl, it is a great diy. It was only 2 dollars for the gutter gaurd at home depot. I recommend to anyone that plans to do this to make sure you have a good tool to cut the mesh with, i had a bad tool and it took 2 hours to get it right. Right now I just left the mesh silver exactly how I bought it, i am comtemplating painting it black, but im not sure it looks pretty cool now, heres a pic. Opinions?

 

Paint it black, the chrome reminds me too much of those 300C's with the big chrome grill, the black looks more clean.

i believe the TL deserves a OEM (quality) grill at least.

but i understand wanting to change things for cheap... if it keeps you happy then yahoo!

I am trying to do this mod right now but, i can't get either of the bolts that hold the top of the grill on. Any ideas?

My buddy( who is not on here) did the mesh style grille too! I couldnt find any pics of his car done but this is when he first got the car.

This i now my wallpaper and my inspiration! thanks im doing black mesh mod now, i blacked out my headlights and removed amber yesterday.

 

hey once i take apart the grille where do i cut at cause i see there are some studs that are im the way does anyone have a pic with an outline on where to cut the grille at so i can place my mesh in?

 

Will have to fiberglass this to make it even with the rest but to lazy plus u can't even notice it unless you are really looking for it.








In the 1st 3 pictures it was painted flat black i did't like it so when i was done. I hit it with black eboxy gloss spray paint and clear coated it. What do you guys think?

 

ur mesh is a lil low on the top near the symbol other then that if u like chrome then good job.

 

Can't wait to get my car front-end lined up like i want then painted. My paint is fading i love ur glossy black. I remember when i first got my car every weekend i would wash it with dish soap. I learned my lesson no dish soap for me lol. I don't know if it was given a cheap paint job before i got it but i did move to Florida from north. idk but now i gota get a paint job. Only car wash soap for me lol... any advice on color to paint my car. I want black but my friends say change it up. Gunmetal grey or that rare blue would be nice. i plan on painting it myself. i know it isnt easy but when im done i will post a diy for those with the same problem.

 

I was on the fence about the end result, but mine turned out ok the more I fiddled with it and time passed, now I love it.

Hey man just wondering if you bought those headlights like that or if you removed the orange sides for the blinkers and if so how you did it? Looks real clean wouldn't mind doing it myself.

 

tried this on my 03... Didnt work, didnt realize the grills were different between these years on the second gens oh well there goes $6.00 and 2 hours...
