Who needs a catalytic convertor?

Has anyone here thought about going with welding flanges to either end of a 2.5 inch pipe and throwing it in the cats place? That teamed up with an O2 simulator should allow for maximum hp gain with no engine code. Also since our cars are newer, and obd2 the only check for exhaust is to make sure we have no engine lights, so inspection should be a breeze. Right now i am making 257 whp and 222 wtq with my listed mods and STOCK cat. I will try and post after i give this a shot.

Its a Federal law that you have to have one. Some places inspection actually means they do look for it.
You dont want to go to unrestrictive and loose needed backpressure

All those who don't want to get fined or get jail terms need a catalytic converter.

In Jersey? Me or risk a HUGE fine.

I believe someone compared a test pipe to a RT performance cat and there were minimal to no differences.

Have you thought of getting a cat from Pro Cats? I don't know if they make one but I'm pretty sure they would have some universal ones that you could put in (just get the right inlet and outlet sizes).

Is there any sound difference? I don't want my car to be real loud.

not much of a difference, the pitch on my TLP got a tad higher tone but not too noticeable.

Also, are the gains primarily low end or top end? Is it noticeable at all?

A high flow cat that Kris posted above is the best solution.

It's not going to be much louder with the high flow cat. I have header and exhaust right now, and when I get the hf cat I don't expect it to be much louder at all.

The Random Tech cats will last. I have put RT cats on local customer's cars, Acuras and Hondas, and they have lasted. Here is some info from Random Tech's website:

But another factor, and one that’s often overlooked, is brick length - longer bricks offer higher flow resistance. On the other hand, if a brick is too short, it won’t offer sufficient area to effectively control exhaust pollutants. Converter manufacturers use different precious metal loadings of washcoats and vary them according to brick length and density. Since all catalytic converters must meet standards established by the Environmental Protection Agency, (EPA) their efficiency in controlling exhaust pollutants is a given - provided a particular converter is installed on the type of vehicle for which it was designed. However, the super-cheap models typically don't have enough high quality materlials to allow them to be effective much longer than the EPA-required 25,000-mile emissions compliance warranty period. Random Technology converters are specifically designed for maximum air flow capacity and to remain effective well beyond the warranty period.

High flow cat is probably your answer where u live, but since I live in Florida they have no emissions here so my cat is gutted out, and yes it makes a big difference.

I went to www.performancepeddler.com and bought a magnaflow high flow cat model 54054 and all it needs a flanges, since i cant find the flange for the cat from the b-pipe to cat, im gonna just cut it off the stock cat and weld it on. This cat only cost me 66$ and its a 250 cell cat.

Hmm, oh yea it was flange holes that needed to be drilled bigger right? I swore I read somewhere on here that the type s cats were a little bit longer or shorter?? Forgot which it was. But in anycase if they fit looks like I'm gonna have to grab one then!

Nothing. You just need the cat, hardware, and 02 extension.

Is there any splicing required when hooking up the 02 extender or is it just plug and play?
