UR Underdrive Pulley

All right guys I know search search search. And I have searched almost everyday for about a week before I was thinking about purchasing the pulley. I have gotten the old pulley off by following other people's instructions. Now I have the new pulley installed with the belt on the back(closest to the engine) on, but I cannot get the belt on that goes to the alternator. I saw there were some things at autozone for this, will they work? What are some tips? Thanks

I assumed you got the UR underdrive Ultra S crank pulley.

Gates Belts:
Alternator A/C belt - K060441 (44 5/8" or 1135mm)
Power Steering belt - K040425 (43 1/8" or 1095mm)

I got mine from a local O'Reilly Auto store. I believe Autozone also carry these belts. Just call them and ask.

I am guessing you mean how do you move the automatic -belt tensioner pulley so you can slip the belt in place? Is that correct? and you bought the right belt if underdrive?

iirc it has a 3/8 square drive- a ratchet fitting on the front- pull or push to move it and get the belt in place- check belt routing diagram!!!

If you bought from Excelerate you can call him for instant tech help

Ohhhhh I understand. Ok i thought there had to be a way to do it but I was not sure. I tried putting the belt on and then turning one of the pulleys so that it would work its way on(kinda like a bicycle chain) but that did not work. I knew there had to be another way just had to ask my good ol' AcuraZine buddies! Even though its late im going to go out there with a flashlight and give it a try. Ill let ya know how it goes.

The auto belt tensioner will not budge! I looked at my service manual that I refer to online and it says I need a special tool? I tried pushing pulling in every direction....nothing! I loosened nut, that did absolutely nothing! Could something be wrong with the tensioner? My car does have 160,000 miles(still running strong!) on it, so it probally never was replaced. What should I do?

did you try a small mirror to see along front side it, and find out what tool- it could be the square drive that fits a normal 3/8" drive ratchet- slips right in
Dont let the book freak you out

My hands were to big for the job and still have any skin, so I had a shop replace the AC belt tensioner when it went bad at 80k miles.

how did you get the old belt off? cut it and let the tensioner fly free?
It is big coiled spring- so it can constantly move to keep tension on the belt
The tensioner wheel should run on the outer side of the belt-

I cut the belt when I removed it. Tensioner did not move when I sliced the belt. And yes the tensioner does run on the outer side of the belt. So since a shop replaced your tensioner that must mean its pretty hard to put in? I was going to take the tensioner off so I could look at it but I noticed the Oil Dipstick line is blocking one of the bolts. Looked pretty hard to get to, but I know there has to be a way. Do you think the tensioner needs to be replaced since it didnt even move when I took off the belt? Should it be easy to move when it is functioning properly?

yes it should move freely so it always adjust to the belt at the moment
Sliced the belt off--- interesting method~
Get new tensioner-
I could not figure out how to get my hand in there and remove enough stuff to do the job
Down to the local private shop it went- 1.5 labor hours later, and with the tech showing me his bloody arms and hands- I paid them for the labor and said goodday!
Others here will say its 20 minutes, so its all about your experience working on the car

All right guys I got it!!! I sprayed a sh$t load of PB blaster on and round the tensioner. I then went and found a huge pipe to put over the wrench and finally cracked it loose! But man did it take some strength, the bolt was easier to get off the crank pulley then that! haha I reset the ECU and drove around for awhile, I love this mod, towards the end of the ride I was starting to feel the power. My car felt slower when I first started driving but after the computer got used to it, it did excellent. Thanks for your help again guys!

Hey 01TL, I figured I didn't need the belt anymore since I purchased the Gate belts, so I might as well just cut it right off! It worked very well, you should give it a try sometime!

its hard on the tensioner spring to do that- normal way is release tensioner on belt- slip belt off pulley and release tensioner.....

Give it a week to relearn the new parts and enjoy!

I dont know what you sprayed or cracked loose- but is there visable movement of the tensioner as you idle and rev the engine? If not- its going to thrash the belt.

Thats a very good question. I will have my brother check when I rev the engine and see if it moves. I shouldn't have really used to word "cracked" I should have said I muscled it. Once I attched the wrench to the bolt that goes into the pulley(the piece that makes contact with the belt) and I put the pipe over the wrench, I pushed towards the rear of the car in an upward motion (Like ffsttyms1 showed in his picture) and the tensioner moved upwards. Nothing cracked, I am still not sure why I used that term I think I was just so excited that I actually got it haha.

I will check tomorrow and see if the tensioner moves, are you saying it should move when the engine is revved? Like it should move when the engine moves? I dont understand why since it is all connected though. I know the thing will not move if I reach my hand down in there and repeat the same motion I did with the wrench. I need a lot more force then just my arm strength to get the thing to move.

BTW the tensioner would not move right when I took the stock belt off and the belt was still in excellent condition. Don't know if that helps but, thought I would just through it out there that the stock belt was not thrashed.
