I currently have a custom tuned Unichip installed on my 02 TL-S. The mapping that Unichip provided did not work well, so I paid extra for the tuning.

In total I spent about $650 for a gain of approx 3-4 whp. As others have said, your money is better spent on other mods.

If you really have to have one send me a PM and I will sell you mine.

I have a 2005 Tundra and the unichip makes suposedly a good gain for that vehicle, but ya, that is ALOT of money to gain for 3-4 hp, when all is doing is changing the timing/o2/fuel mixture in your engine. I would rather get a apexi computer for the $$, wont that do the same thing, and also get a kewl looking computer?

I have the stock Unichip flash and I never dynoed it. However, I did do back to back to back runs at the drag strip with the chip and then without the chip. In between the runs, I reset the ECU and ran the car for about 30 minutes. Then I put the Unichip back in and reset the ECU again and ran it for another 30 minutes or so.

I dont have the slips handy, but IIRC I was running 14.8s with the Unichip (on a very hot - 90 degrees kind of day, and very humid) ... On OEM tires. I was running 15.0s without the Unichip. So thats proof enough for me that it works. Not to mention leaning out the A/F ratio gives me better gas mileage!

My performance mods are: Comptech Header, Comptech Icebox, Comptech Axleback Exhaust, Unichip piggyback ECU

Also have some mods which prolly don't make any difference what-so-ever - Comptech Swaybars, Tein SS w/EDFC (IIRC EDFC was set to 0 in the rear, 8 in the front, its been awhile) ..

But it did in fact make a difference on my Type S.

from what I've heard it gives about 6whp. not huge gains. Unichip isn't as user friendly as say e-manage because it doesn't come with software and has to be custom tuned to what you have running like say a supercharger tuned unichip wouldn't run properly on a NA set up.

Thanks all for the info Don't think I will be purchasing the Unichip. Unfortunately that’s not my car in the avatar, but I do have a white tl-s and plan on purchasing this kit in the near future after I finish with performance mods.

I have it and wouldn't get it again. If you do buy it, get a custom tune with it. I would, but the closest place is in Chicago.

I love my unichip, I guess i was the exception rather than the rule, for me it was like headers all over again. Latley i discovered another pleasant surprise. I know the b map on the unichip was suppose to be for 100 octane racing gas. Since my recent problems with my partial christmas tree (See my other thread) anywho, long story short. When my tranny went out, i tried like hell to get acura to keep my original ecu, but they told me it had to be replaced with the new tranny. For the hell of it i set my unichip to the b map on monday, just using 92 octane. For some reason the b map is in love with the new ecu. Holy shit, after restetting to b map & giving her a little time for the ecu to adjust to b. She screems like a bitch. I got on it & had a long churp between 1&2 in auto. the change in my pockets ended up on the back floor. My wife even thought i snuck in a new mod without her knowledge, (bitches). We neways this was a very pleasent surprise for me. Before i take her into the shop on monday, I'll change her back to a map, i'm sure they'll have the scope on her

Here is the bhp. don't get the bhp confused with our 265 rated hp its a different calculation. As you can see Gains across the entire bhp & Torque, just as advertised. These are the actual charts from my 2003tls when i drove to Unichip in portland

What did Kris say that was incorrect? Answer: Nothing.

He didn't say no one saw gains and some did see losses. You saw gains. Great for you.

However, add up the money you spent on the Unichip and the dyno runs to tune it and determine your cost per hp. It's a lot more expensive than a pulley or headers (as Kris' comment implied). Perhaps for someone who's already installed all the 'inexpensive' mods and who wants to ring the last little gains out of the motor a Unichip is the last mod (before some kind of FI), but you gotta be really desparate for that final hp to install it.

To me it was worth the money, & i didn't pay a red cent for any dyno or any tunes! And furthermore theres no desperation here, already had the headers, airflow i needed, & added ur crank pulley. Sorry if i hit a nerve with you!!!???

Oh & one more thing PA, this thing has payed for it self 18 times over. Prior to unichip i was getting about 310 miles a tank post unichip 360 or so. You figure that out @ $3.00 a gallon.

1. You didn't hit a nerve.
2. I didn't go on the attack.
3. How are other people supposed to know that you've already done all the other mods?
4. Will everyone get the dyno runs for free in order to tune their Unichip? If not, that has to be factored into the cost?
5. What is the $$$/hp for the Unichip?

$$$/hp and $$$/ft lb is what determines whether a mod is worth it.

Sorry dude, thats the way you came across to me, if they want my mods its really easy to look at the profiles. No other mod gives you gains across the entire rpm range. You left out my pleasent surprise of getting an extra 50 to 70 miles a tank. That in its self is worth it. Its a NO Brainer. My feeling is you got the chip & got bad results, Am i correct?

Ya kris, but i know you, you do mega highway miles. Mines a lot of city driving in one of the worse citys in the US so far as traffic is concerned. Plus i leave 2 to 3 gallons in my tank @ fill-up. dont want any sentiment from the bottom of my tank getting into my injectors. So kiss my what?

Nice. I usually get a low of around 280 miles per tank up to an amazing high of 310 if I happen to do some driving at night on the freeway. This is around Redmond, WA. If I could consistently get 300+ I would be a happy camper. What's your secret?

Since the mileage ratings for the car differs by 10mpg between city/highway (a 50% increase) I think the type of driving makes a huge difference.

I think i paid 575.00 through the group buy mabe less. I like the extra torque i get, hp isn't that noticeable. The 2 charts reflect that. so far as the price, if wifey can spend $500.00 for clothes, i'm gettin my toys, just work alittle O.T.
