i was wondering if anyone has taken the cat off the stock exhaust and made a straight pipe. would it sound good?

 

If you keep the resonator and mufflers it would not be to bad.

 

where is the resonator?

 

It's after the cat but,before the mufflers.
Some call it a mid muffler

 

someone did it and it sounds i currently have cat > resonator > straight to tips and it sounds borderline and the drone is insanity. im working on getting a custom magnaflow/borla going.

 

I have nothing but straight pipes

 

just head up, no CAT on road is illegal.

 

i did a magnaflow custom setup ,I started with a 2.5 catco cat then two resonator into a 13in magnaflow mid muffler and than it splits into 2 1/4 in pipes and tips

i hate to say it almost sounds like a 350z with a greddy exhaust nice and deep outside the inside drone is not to bad

 

let me know if you wanna get rid of the piping from the resonator back, i would like to try that setup out

thanks, believe it or not i can feel a difference of power because it is sad on how they choke the tl-p ulev engine with the tiny exhaust piping ,now i can feel the true power with the 2.5 in piping because the engine can now breathe better can wait till I got my obx headers and really feel the difference

 

JDM-UA5 how much did that setup cost if you dont mind me asking? that is exactly what i wanted to do. except i want to keep my stock resonator.

 

with the muffler and two resonator it was like 400.00 .I suggest that you use two resonator because if you look at the pix it shows only one i added another one because on the inside drone was to loud
also you will need a 13in magnaflow, you will need to call magnaflow they don't show it on there web site but that is the muffler that fits in the stock mid muffler spot

 

so if i take off just the mid muffler it would sound good? or would i have take off the car and mid muffler... and just makin sure, you have to replace it with other piping when you take them off right?

 

if you remove just your rear mufflers it will sound good

 

I do agree with richard i have a friend who has a 07 nissan altima and just took off the rear mufflers and his v6 sounds good

I think everyone is aware of the legal ramifications of removing the cat.

 

^ Specially 99% of the shops that you will try to have do it.

how does one get caught without a cat? other than emissions testing obviously.

 

^ usually emissions testing is the most common way.

another possible way: my friend with an Evo was telling me about a time he got pulled over for alleged street racing. the cops got out all their mirrors and other equipment and did a full scan of the underbody of the car and under the hood looking for illegal parts and whatnot. they could see that you are catless maybe? totally rare i know. but it could happen i guess...

Thinking of taking off my rear mufflers, anyone know more or less the price to do this at a shop??

 

you can unbolt the rear mufflers yourself. welding in straight pipes at shop + tips = $60 to $120?

 

I got mine done for $120 and had them made to be a bolt on set up. excluding the cost of the tips.

a good way to trick the five oh is if your re-doing your exhaust and dont want a cat, install a resonator in place of the cat. It looks just like a CAT on the outside. Personally I installed a high flow magnaflow cat, with 2 magnaflow street series on the back. The car sounded very raspy at higher rpm, Added a resonator and only smooth deep tones are comming through. Cabin noise is fairly high at low rpms, but is sexy all the way through the rpms. 2.5 inch custom piping all the way with 0bx headers.
