Simple part

1999 TL When my dealer replaced my airbags they forgot to put the "airbag clips covers" back. Since the car is 22 yrs old they told me to go to the junk yard. I'm asking this forum if anyone has a set of clips for my great TL?

If the "airbag clips covers" you mention are displayed on the link below, it may be one of the 'discontinued' parts listed?
If so, then that is the reason they are referring you to a salvage yard in hopes of obtaining said part.
Steering Wheel for 1999 Acura TL | Acura OEM Parts

Or is it #8 or 9?

All I have to say is, if THEY left them off, let THEM go the the junkyard.

Honestly, it is their mistake. They need to fix it.

I still have to have the airbag recall done on our 2001 TL-p... I think I will take some pictures and double check everything on it as well as wait for it when I take it in.

I've contacted them twice. Next is a letter to the CEO. I never would've noticed it until my hand found it's way into the hole where the plastic clip should be on the steering wheel assembly. When you have yours done ask them if the clips weren't in place and the bag goes off what would happen? Please let me know.

It looks like 9 but my cover was flat. I expected it wouldn't be available but I didn't expect my dealer to give up on me. I wanted them to cover the cost or find the parts for me. I've bought 3 cars from them. The best one was this TL and that one was a certified used car.

Wow, they were the selling dealer no less. That is just wrong on every level. I would most certainly contact the CEO.

And you know they either broke them taking them out, or they left them sitting on a bench somewhere. Just amazingly sad when a tech and the dealership that employ them try to weasel out of a problem they create.

Is it this part?

I may be at the pick a part this weekend, would be willing to pick a few up if I see them.

Direct message me if you'd like...

I received your message but I cannot reply because either your inbox is full or (I’m guessing) you have not fully registered your username.

I think a really cool feature of this site would be to allow users like us to be able to post what discontinued or hard to find parts they’re looking for on our older model Acura’s for other users whom have access to pickup and sell.

I’m pretty sure that may be a feature of the marketplace, but up until now I think either a) most people go there to sell something that they want to get rid of or b) are looking for specialty parts like a spoiler or aspec kit that was hard to find even when the cars weren’t as old.

TL airbag clip

This website is complicated. I did register my name. I deleted what was in my PM inbox but I'll have to look into registration. Looks like they only allow 2 messages. Feels like I'm signing my life away. I don't think we have to PM.

I agree with you on a forum for old parts etc. I've gone to many salvage yards on-line to try and find this part with no luck. So that's why I joined this website. I'm glad you answered my post and I do hope you have some success in finding the clips. Other than cosmetic issues with the part, I was concerned about the airbag doing it's thing if I was in an accident and what affect it would have if the clips weren't in place. Probably nothing but who knows.

Good luck

Search car-part.com for your car year and make. Then if you are lucky and find a car near you, visit that yard and find the car to harvest the part from.

Online salvage yards are not going to list that specific part, individually, for a customer to come along and purchase. You have to find it, hopefully in the interior color of your car.

If you cannot find it in your specific interior color, you may be able to purchase a similar interior color from a local auto parts store to spray match.

What color is your interior?
Dark Fern
Medium Taupe
Graphite Black

I am pretty certain that clips being there or not will have zero affect on airbag performance or safety. Otherwise there would be many more lawsuits against manufacturers.

It is purely a cosmetic issue. Now, that does not mean that cosmetic issues are not issues, as they most certainly are. I mean how many people get rid of perfectly serviceable vehicles because of cosmetics? More than mechanical issues by far.

Yeah those clips are just there to hide the bolts that hold the airbag on. I wouldn't worry much if you can't find them, as they're purely decorative.
Was WhiteTiger able to scoop up the parts you needed at the yard?

If someone else has the part I would take them up on that. No new cars with black interior have shown up at the lots nearby.

🤷🏻‍♂️

The only reason I need them is cosmetics since it shouldn't cause any damage if the airbag goes off. How much do you want for the two?

I wouldn't charge you for them, as they'd be thrown away otherwise. I tried to PM you, but it said your inbox is full. It's probably because your account is new.

I have nothing in PM inbox or sent mail. I got your message about sending me the clips. If you want to email me at factcheck@mindspring.com I'll give you my address and send you money for postage. Thanks so much. I know it's just cosmetic but it drives me crazy knowing my TL isn't perfect.

If you look through this thread you'll see that whitetiger5 has a picture of the clips which is what I'm looking for. Those clip covers look like they'll fit the holes. I'm not sure about the clips you want to send me. Since my car is 22 years old I haven't been able to find the part number. The dealer wasn't at all helpful.
