Removing tint

I've been told that removing tint from the back window will screw up the defroster. Is this at all true? Has anyone actaully removed their back window tint or know someone who has?
I'm asking because IL recently passed a law that states you can have 35% all around and I already have 18% on the rears so I was considering retinting the whole car.

Spray the back glass with soapy water and stick a plastic bag to it. About an hour or so in the sun and you should be able to peel and rub it off without damaging the rear window defrost.
Hope this helps.
