removing headlight flutes

sup my people i just got some black housed headlights for a steal and i opened them up to give them a nice clean and saw that you can remove the fluted cover from the low beam part of the houseing. i saw some without the fluted part on the headlight that were inspire jdm black housed on ebay. have any of you guys tried this? any threads about it i searched already not exactly and easy subject to find. lmk im bout to try the headlights with out the fluted part and see what the output is like. lmk thanks

lol i figured that but i was thinking whats the diff. between the 99-01 housing and 02-03 housing? they use the same bulb and theirs dont have the flutes they also have the same glare blocking mechanism to block the bulbs direct light. idk just pondering give your cents if you may.

yea because its the same design the bulb blocker just isnt as pretty as the newer models. im bout to remove the blocker and paint it black idk. i wonder if anyone else has done this, cause it would i presume make for better light output.

The 02-03 headlights have a different design. The 99-01 needs to have the metal refractor like the 02+ does. Light output will be less controlled without it.

is the "refracter" the metal piece that blocks the bulbs direct light so the light only gets reflected back against the reflecter part. the only thing controling the light output even with refracter thing is the actual housing, which is the same setup as an 03. unless the refracter thing is designed diff. or changes the reflection the results should be the same.

The 02-03 use the metal piece to help refract light back at the housing and help project the light where its supposed to be. The 99-01 have a completely different headlight and also use a diffuser to limit and control the light and not just the metal piece.

i have 99-01 year headlights. i still dont see the diff ultimatly the bulb needs to shine against the reflecter and the housing is what shapes the beam pattern. whatever ill just try it or maybe ill remove the metal peice and just use the diffuser plastic anyway. lol time to experiment.

you're talking about that piece right in front of the bulb right? I hate that damn thing but was afraid it's gonna turn our headlights in a damn shotgun

well not exactly i dont want to remove that part because its needed so you dont blind people with the bulbs direct shine, that keeps the bulb reflecting back. i just want to remove the fluted section in front of that piece its gone on the 02 style headlights but the 99-01 headlights have the fluted section.

I had hit a deer not long ago, and my drivers light got busted, had to drive for a couple weeks with that "inner lens" missing, until I got it fixed. The light output from that side seemed brighter, but there is a metal thing in front of the bulb, and it casted strange shadows and broke up the light horribly. Not sure i'd take them out

true true i understand. one question tho was the inner lense peice still trapped inside the housing where the low beam was, and also was the outer cover part damaged as well? just asking because i want to know if one of those reasons the cause of the weird beam pattern and shadow effect.

aight guys the results are in, while installing my black housed headlights i removed one of the fluted covers to see if the light cutoff would be better. well turns out my friend minorobsession was correct. the light output was horrible and not focused at all so dont try this just go with a retrofit if your looking for better cutoff. peace
oh and you dont want those headlights since they dont have the flutes in them your gonna have to take them apart and put that section back in. ebay has more blacked out ones tho just search inspire headlights or tl headlights.
thanks for the help guys

I tried to tell you that to that they needed those pieces. We (older members) have tied removing things to make them look better and try to get more light output and it hasnt worked.
