Removing crank w starter??
Removing crank w starter??
Has anyone used this method?? Breaker bar and socket on crank bolt facing front of car and just "goose" the key a bit to get starter to turn and break bolt loose. I don't have a very strong impact wrench at home that can do it. If this isn't ok, any other suggestions?
Yep, take 41 nort. Depending on where in MILW you are located its only about a hr and 30. im 30 min south of GB. I can make it to waukesha in about a hr and 15ish
Its not the impact gun that is the problem. Most all would remove it. Its the air source. Most compressors found in peopes garages arent strong enough. Sure the go to 125+ psi but they just dont have the sustained volume (cfm) to do it.
My offer still stands if it doesnt work

Must turn CW. After a quick search I see many people both TL and CL have used this method. I haven't gotten to mine yet because my central air took a crap and I had to take apart and fix that instead. Maybe today after I'm off work I'll give it a whirl. It does work though, I've seen many posts about using this method. Now I need to figure out how to get the alternator and P/S pulleys off!
It works very well!! I just used a medium depth socket, 3" extension, and 1/2" drive breaker bar. If your bar isn't long enough, mine was 2 feet, just stick a wood block underneath it. Probably should use the wood either way I'd imagine just to avoid scraping your tool up and/or gouging the concrete. It took 3 bumps of the key to get it broke loose. The first 2 were very quick bumps as I was bein tentative so I didn't fail and destroy shit. After the first 2 I repositioned the bar to closer to 5 o'clock and use a shorter wedge of blocks and gave the key a jostle. Broke free no issue then. Took my puller and had to make it a 2 arm puller because there's not really enough room to fit all 3 on there. Used a socket in the pulley hole for a spacer and it was off in 5 seconds. I'll post some pics of finished product as soon as photobucket will let me. Alternator pulley will get on eventually but didn't wanna pull alternator off today.
Hardest part was putting the belt back on and getting a bolt back in the P/S pump. 30 was a good price considering u gotta take the wheel off, splash guard down (4 push pins worked), belt off, pulley off, then reinstall.
Yeah he went to high school with my dad so he gives me a good deal
I figured it out. Just was curious if there was anything to know for tightening it before I did it since the crank spins that way as well. Didn't wanna stick nothing in the holes of the new pulley and cause damage.
