quad exhaust tip

i really want to get quad exhaust tips on my TL. i took a pic of the rear view of a BMW m5 to my muffler guy and hes ordering some tips which im going to go back and see on tuesday. the only thing is that he said id have to make the exhaust cutt out larger to fit the quad tips. is this a minor modification i can do myself or should i leave it to the body shop experts? also im planning on getting an OEM kits will doing the cuttout affect attaching a kit later? should i wait and do it all at once?

I assume you don't have any plans to get new exhaust? Unless you piece together a custom system w/ a muffler that lets you use your own tips, you're gonna be out of luck having cut wider notches in your lip.

Don't cut anything until you get the rear lip.
So long as the cut out fits the tips well, I think this will look very nice. I look forward to seeing pics.

^^agreed. I have been thinking about the 07 Type-S tips, but it would be some work. They might have 2 pipes coming from the muffler anyway. I havent looked into it too much, but I think it would look tight.

Yea I was thinking the same as you guys I didn't wanna cutt the stock rearlip and then not be able to attach the kit lip. I'm not planning on getting a full exhuast system. I'm gonna replace the stock resonator with the dynomax resonator and I removed the mid-muffler afew months back. Guess ill jus wait and see on tuesday how the tips look and if they'll fit decently until I'm saved up for a kit.

I posted a thread in the 3g section and found out that the 07 TL-S muffler IS single in-dual out (two pipes come out of each muffler), so just doing the tips wouldn't work. Oh well.

I was interested in the same thing. You think simply by changing the tips on the stock muffler to dual tips would b possible without any major work besides muffler welding

HAHA. Im surprised to see this brought back to life myself. but from what i found its fairly easy modd, attaching dual tips to the current cans. the main thing that stopped me was that our existing cuttout wouldnt be wide enough so ud have to cut ur bumper. for me i said no thanks cuz i want to add a kit. but once the it is added i may still do something like this.

I doubt it would bolt up. And hope you don't wreck your right muffler. From the picture it looks like it's one piece from the cat all the way back. ~$500

My cousin got rear ended and the exhaust got damaged and just ended up getting the Comptech exhaust instead of the stock since insurance paid for it.
