oil

hey guys,

i just purchased an 03 tl type s and love it. what do you all suggest to do:

go to the dealer and get oil changes there

or

go somewhere else, like a jiffy lube, and get it changed there.

also, what kind of oil do you all suggest?

thanks,

Do it yourself. By far the easiest car I've ever had to change the oil on.

Lot's of good choices in oil. I'd go synthetic.

Mobil-1 or Amsoil are a good start.
And get a good filter. The OEM Honda/Acura filters are sub-par. Napa Gold, Wix, Donaldson are all good ones.

mobil also makes their own synthetic filter for extended oil changes, although i haven't seen any empirical data on it myself to say whether it's any good.

DO NOT go to a quick lube place. If anything, go to the dealer.

DIY or dealer.

i will be using royal purple when i do my next oil change.

i also heard that the S2000 oil filter is better to use that TL filter.

I was going to change my oil myself. The dealer has always changed it for the original owner. My question's are Mobil 1 or GTX (not synthetic)? Use Acura filter, Fram or Fram extended guard?

On all my other cars I changed oil every 3 to 5 K with GTX (non synthetic) and Fram flter not the extend guard.

If I use Mobil 1 how often do you change it? Does synthetic make a big difference?

Bottom line what is the best result to go and how often changing it?

Thanks,
Andy

Mobil 1 or Amsoil & change it at 15k miles. The oil filter at 7k or if you go with the amsoil EAO filter you would change it @ 15k also.

Bottom line, synthetic is the way to go and don't use Castrol.

Always had Redline in all my cars and bikes,a bit pricy but can't go wrong with Redline, neither with M1 or Amsoil.

So what makes the S2000 filter better than any other Honda filter besides size?

M1 extended performance filters are awesome filters, along with M1 extended performance full syn is awesome oil. the TL is very easy to do oil change, but my wifes 98 corrolla is easier, so easy I think I'll teach my 9yrs old nephew how to do it. trust me, extremely easy to change your own oil.

I'm not sure if they make it to fit the TL, but Wix (or carquest) makes the best "everyday" oil filters for cars, way ahead of Fram or K&N.

As for oil, go with a good synthetic like Mobil 1 or Redline - if you use the right oil, you may pick up about 5hp from less friction and reduction of windage (extra oil on the crankshaft).

high priced filters are all over rated . I used the cheap fram filters for the 1st 100k then switched to the extended guard for the 2nd 100k because i went to 15k intervals. My motor was still in perfect shape and dont see the need for expensive filters on these motors. You can still see the original cross hatching in my old motor

i wouldnt worry about rushing. (like if your at teh 3k mark) i ran regular dino oil to 7500+ (what the manual recomends-as 3k is a waste of $$) do what you want. its not rocket science.. Pick the oil, grab a filter and have it put on or do it yourself.
