Drive an 2001 TL, Current Miles 102,245. Any basic's i should know about this car? Common problems, ect.
I have done a couple things to it, but i seem to only be getting 14.3 MPG, i defiantly think something is wrong there. I have no CEL's. This is what i've done to the car so far:

- NGK G-Power Spark Plugs
- Seafoam (whole can into vacuum line)
- Always Full Synthetic Oil Change
- Always Minimum 93 Octane Premium gas, from either Marathon, Shell, or BP

Just bought this car 2 months ago, and already put a large amount of money into the gas tank. -___-

That's not normal gas mileage, even for 100% city. First, you put in the wrong spark plugs, but I don't think that would reduce your mileage by 6 MPG.

Either way, did you get the transmission checked out? Have a warranty on it? They are suicidal by nature. Has it ever been replaced? Before or after 2005?

-First; Like Karanx said WRONG Spark Plugs! Use only NGK Iridium X!
Use Part No:
ZFR5FIX-11 for TL-P.
ZFR6FIX-11 for TL-S.

- Second; Check Engine Air Filter status! A Clogger Filter can Drop MPGs by alot.

Our TLs are not Gas Guzzlers so check your engine if your having lower that the stated (19MPG City)! Me myself got around 24-25 in the City but with mods.

Now Common Problems???? Well you should have done your Research before Buying that Diamond in the Rough!

Try putting that engine and gas cleaner in. You get it at any autozone or walmart and its like 5-10 bucks. But i would also check your fuel rail or fuel injectors. There may be a problem there.

 

How do i know what trans i have? i just bought this car a couple months ago. i'm planning on doing a 3-part drain and fill.

- I have replaced my air filter with a NAPA brand one.

- And i'm planning on doing the spark plugs again soon, except with the right model this time lol.

 

Trans as in transmission. Is your cal automatic or manual?
