LED gauges

YOOOOO!! So, I've done my research and I've yet to find a reasonable DIY and a site to get some bright white LEDs. I know a few members on the forums have done this mod and I'd like to know WHERE did you buy the LEDs from and what are the sizes.

I recently installed a pair of carbon fiber Polk Momos into my door panel of my 03 TL-S with a double din Kenwood 8017. Heres some pics.

I do live in San Diego and the fires are still in effect. The fuzzy picture is from all the SMOKE in the air. The air quality is close to shit.

Are you looking for lights for the gauges, the dash or both? Are you good with a soldering iron? If so, you have more options. I order most of my 3mm LEDs off ebay from China, dirt cheap. Otherwise I use www.oznium.com or www.superlumination.com. You can use #74 bulbs for the gauges. You can find direct replacements for the climate control but I find its easier to hard wire them. Have you checked the DIY section, there are some decent write ups in there. Try this link too, its a little outdated but still applies, http://n4te.com/images/acura/leds/guide/

how is the kenwood and the install? did you have to fabricate your own kit or do they already make one? i'm really thinking about doing double din pretty soon...
any help would be appreciated.

Still have to fab your own double din kit or modify a Metra kit. There are a couple DIYs for it in the DIY section. The Kenwood is pretty easy to install, I have one nearly identical.

Contrary to belief, they actually do make a double din face plate that works perfect for our TL. The face plate is a bit oversized so you file where needed and secure in place with a shim behind the plate to make up for the space. The deck has several pre-set screw points for you to choose from. Simply use the best suited screw hole for the deck. I was surprised to only pay $100 for the install . I consider myself lucky.

Guys, thank you soo much for the links and info on the LEDs. Question, I went on ebay and saw these 3mm WHITE LED really cheap.

Would these LEDs work for my gauges and dash? Do I need resistors?

Yeah those would work well, they are a little bright, you might try something closer to 10-15k mcd. Check out these sellers as well, I have purchased from them before with great success and they have great prices; lvehk and giorgio11185. And yes, you do need resistors but they usually include resistors for free with the LEDs at the correct resistatance. Look around a little more, you can usually find 50 LEDs for less than $10 including shipping.

These would work well for the dash, you would need to use about 5-6 per gauge, but they will come through a light blue because of the filter. But they will work great for the climate control and all the buttons.

I used 3mm for all the buttons and dash, but ran out and had to use 5mm for the gauges but will be fixing that eventually because they do not distribute light wide enough. I take that back, I actually used some PLCC-2 LEDs for my climate control to create the effect I wanted, but 3mm will work and is recommended. I am doing someone's dash in all red soon on a CL, I'll post up some pics when I'm done. I ordered the LEDs from one of the ebay sellers I listed earlier, I paid about $8 for 50 red 3mm LEDs.

Yeah. The sails are the stock sails that our TL's have. The guy took the sails and fabricated the tweets with the mounting bracket included with the components and did them. They came out awesome! The 6.5" speaker pod was also a great design. Those Polk Momo's are about 2 3/4" deep. They would go in, but hit the window when rolled down. The speaker is soo close to the window that recently when the window is down you can hear the speaker tap the glass. I had it fixed and it's no longer an issue. I am really happy with my set up.

Recent add to the system: Dynomat Extreme Trunk Kit. I'll tell you, with the spoiler on, it always wants to rattle. After the 10lbs of Dynomat, not a single rattle. Huge DIFFERENCE inside and out. Highly recommend it. Check out the install. I cut my finger like 5 times making it happen but the results are well worth it!!

Thanks for the additional info 02TLSfan. I'm gonna order soon.
