i didn't realise pvc was a demon offspring till now, that realsed harmful gasses while in its fiendish element, but seriously I dont deny that smooth mandrel bent metal tube gives good flow, but at the same time it absorbas heat like other. PVC is thicker and less conductive in 100 plus degree situations than a metal pipe. try using a hair dryer to a piece of pvc leave it there for one mins time how long it takes to touch it then do the same to your metal pipe, then try this experiment in reverse, put the heat element inside the cool pipe then touch the inside and time how long it takes for you to feel the heat transfer through the pipe

okay my findings are correct I held a pre heated blow drier directly to one side of the pvc pipe, the other side stayed warm but not hot the heated element side was hot, the heating element was held there for 5 mins directly to the pvc, concluding that pvc is not a great conductor of heat, and we all know that metal is, so take off your intakes and try this. and in 5 more mins the area that was directly heated on the element side is a tad warmer than room temp, the blow drier was about 200-250 degrees which probably is a similar under hood temp around the air intake on a summer day, because I couldn't my hand directly over the heated element for over 3 seconds and that’s how you measure a bbq grill flame, and i am able to report all of these finding due to the acidic gas not doing me in, pvc is less susceptible to heat soak than metal

Because you still have the restrictive joints that induce turbulence, and you still have the restrictive rubber ribbed tube going to your intake.

my setup is great in the tx heat, less heat soak, than a full metal tube, so if you brought your car to the same temp conditions, Id have a more effiecent intake setup, especailly with my tb coolant bypass, so bet on it then, i'll just keep what serves my purpose best, through the both seasons we have in TX. I will continue not to feel like a sucker because I didn't over pay for my k&n / pvc setup

..it sounds like that because you removed your resonator box. Just like everyone else stated, you probably gained no HP outta it.. if anything, lost HP. The reason why intakes are fairly expensive is the R&D that goes into it.. making sure you get the most HP out of the mod. But if you like your money-saving mod, then thats all that matters. Just don't go around saying your homemade intake is just as good as any name-brand intake, because it isn't.

why don't u put ur funds were ur druel runs, and make this intake for your self and see if it makes any gains for u, all i did was glue my short ram k&n intake aluminum pipe to 3 in pvc and an elbow, I got the idea all the forums sayin cia's were better and simply exdended what I have nobody wants your money that u work very hard for

Hey, I was thinking of putting a an aem cold air intake in my stock 03 TL. I never owned a car before, I was always into american trucks but now I have this car and I am beginning to love it. Anyway I wanted to start adding little performance parts to it here and there and a cold air intake seems like a good place to start. Anyone have aem intakes in their TL's and if so do you recommend it over other companies. Thanks

CAI is definitely a good performance start. AEM is a well known brand, along with Injen, and Comptech. Can't go wrong with those. You can also do an ebay intake and get a quality filter. Many people have ran that setup too.
