Intake Question

I'm going to install an intake soon, either cold air or short ram. Will also removing the intake resonator have any positive effect or should I just leave it on?

if you're installing a cold air or short.. you'll be taking it off anyways..

most powerful is teh comptech ice box. p2r is right their with it, BUT there were only a few made from what i know. and the ice box looks stock and is not as loud as the other. but then next would be injen(sp?) and aem

p2r's cai is custom made with 4 inch tubing. so i'd say it's up there with the icebox. as far as the traditional cold air intakes go, i say go with injen. i got the injen rd (race division) cai. sounds good (: !

question?

obvisously the best intake costs the most like injen, aem... were talking around $200 for an very nice intake. however what are the alternatives for something cheaper such as this:

it will work, pipe thickness comes into play now, and filter. thinner the pipe, u will get resonance, can crack at the mounting point (happens to the expensive one too) and the pipe can heat up quickly and start warming up the cold air.

how about the sound of it. also will a short ram intake be good enough for someone in the north since its usually cold and below 80

make one from pvc and call it a day only a sucker would spend more money on a tube than the filter itself

if u get a 3 inch elbow of pvc pipe the female opening fits very snuggly over the stock rubber hose that lead to the original airbox. i glued my short ram intake to it to make a cia and the car feels way better, even with the slot under the foglight is filled with leds still feels good and sounds good

pvc pipe and pvc elbows really mess up the air flow. do some research on air flow.

would u want to have sharp bends with jagged corners on ur exhaust or u intake runners???

hence why ppl do pnp. nice smooth bends is where its at.

the expanding accordian hose leading to the tb makes more turbulance than the smooth bends of the pvc. and if the shorter the better everyone would have short ram intakes. plus pvc is super smooth

pvc is not smooths. especially around the bends. and the shorter is not always the better.

PVC roughness ranges. But at it's smoothest, it's not any smoother than metal.

But PVC 90 degree elbow causes A LOT more loss than a metal 90 degree bend. About 3x more.

Thanks for the info, I've been looking fwd to meeting Chi town Azine peoples to get questions like this answered. I want a CAI for performance but I'm not sold on the loudness of the sound so according to your post above Ice Box will be the least loud? I have ATLP V2 quads, Jpipe & HFC on order and I don't want to over do it since I drive real estate clients around allot.

Ice box is the quietes intake out their for our cars. But gets louder when u floor it.

Ill pay for ur dyno runs if ur pvc intake makes more power than the aem/injen/ comptech/ hell even a cheap $30 ebay one. And if it doesn't make more power than stop saying shit that u haven't proven

And if your going to spend a few dollars on something that is worse than the stock setup why spend the few dollars. Do it RIGHT or dont do it at all.

PVC can also heat up and produce acidic gas under the hood, not a good idea.
