Intake options and question

OK I am sold on the first power mod. I want to change the intake. I have a couple of questions hopefully somone out there can answer.

First, I have the extended warranty from Acura and was wondering if the CAI would void engine/transmisssion coverage.

2nd, It would seem the most popular choice for Intakes is the AEM CAI. Are there other manufacturers I chould consider? I went to the WOW downtown Chicago yesterday and there were so many different kind I saw. I dont know if other options for our car (mine is 2002 TL-p).

Would you trust someone on Ebay to get the part?

AEM or Injen...since you have a TLP, the AEM V2 is the best intake power wise to get along with the Comptech Icebox - though the Icebox looks stock and doesnt give much of a sound increase like an intake with the open filter.

it shouldnt change your warranty at all, but the best thing would be to ask the dealership or if you have a problem, just put the stock intake back on.

Ebay is just fine to get the intake on

Is that stock number 21416?

There is one on ebay now for buy it now price of 175.95 with 15 shipping new.

It seems to fit a wide line of cars and I just want to make sure that this isnt for the tl-s or something.

Seems like a good price from where I have been looking.

ya I believe so...go to the AEM website to make sure - they dont make one for the type S, so you are good to go there. Basically the only thing you need to think about is if you want some extra sound (get a CAI with the exposed filter) or stay basically stock - Comptech Icebox

So the AEM CAI can either be installed with an icebox or just left alone? Is there any benefit mechanically going one way vs the other?

Also if I thought it was too loud initially without the icebox then I could at that later to dampen the engine noise?

Sorry just trying to understand it.

Ok, the Icebox is a physical intake seperate from the AEM or Injen CAI. It looks like the stock airbox and has the filter inside the compartment - whereas the AEM or Injen intakes, have the filter on the end of a metal tube - exposed to the air. Im here to tell you, if you put on an intake with an exposed filter (AEM or Injen or many other ebay brands), the car will be very loud when you floor it. It sounds like a big V8! It is really pretty cool, but it is loud. If you dont think you will like that, you can do what demolition_x mentioned, take off your intake resonator and put in a K&N filter - that is actually what I have now because I thought the AEM V2 was a little too loud after 6 months with it. Search this site for intake resonator and you will find instructions on how to remove it - you will have to anyway if you get a new intake. But there is no way to quiet down an intake

Yo check it, just get the INJEN CAI. Its so sick. It roars when you hit VTEC but it sounds so sick! Its awsome. Thats what i got for my 99TL. I love it and wouldnt consider any other intake. Honestly its not that loud, i mean, its loud but its not like a fucken rice can muffler flyin down the street. Its really not rediculously loud or anything. Trust me, its sounds so good. You wont need to quiet it or anything. As for regular driving, not flooring it, you wont hear the intake roaring at all. all you'll hear is the intake sucking in air very smoothly and that is a very nice smooth sound but its not loud. Only you the driver will hear it unless someone is driving next to you with there windows down, they will be able to hear it for the most part suckin in all that air. Good Luck. If you need to hear what mine sounds like, i can put a mini vid together for ya is you want. Just ask me and i can. Later.

Just the wording i guess got to me.

And for the record You wont hear it driving like not having a muffler on a car, unless your really giving it gas.

Want to know what it will sound like Remove your resonator.
Here is a DIY to do so you can get to know what it sounds like

Oh here is a tape of the inside under full throttle (and if your wondering about the delay in 1st to 2nd shift, i was extremly traction limited in first) The sound is awsome in person.
When not floored you wont hear it,

Sweet...thanks for the vid.

I was afraid it was going to sound like one of the riced out toyotas or something. That had more of a growl than a whine I would associate with them.

Anyway, I called the Acura dealer today and asked about modding studd on the engine and he said that for the extended warranty it goes to a warranty adjuster and they will determine if aftermarket enhancements attributed to the problem.

He even suggested just keeping the originals and if I ever needed something worked on then they wouldnt question it. He did say that with the tranny's it up to his discretion as to whether a mod caused the issue and gave me the feeling that he wouldnt have two thoughts about swapping a transmission in our cars.

heh.....I guess he has seen enough of them

I wouldnt worry about the tranny warranty and a intake. They would have to prove that the intake was the cause of it. (which they never could because they know it will die with out)

as for the extended warranty would keep the original stuff around (not that your going to need it for any thing with our engine)
Get a intake and enjoy

I ended up going with the Comptech Icebox with K & N filter with oil and cleaner.

Should receive them soon.

I am looking for a week long transformation sometime this spring Going to be adding aesthetic enhancements as well as performance. I just hope the Icebox isnt too hard to install.

Is it very hard to install?

In the links Fttsmy posted you have to take off the front bumper. Is that the case here?

I did it without taking off my bumper. It was a little dificult, but as long as you have some tools and don't mind busting some knuckles..... you'll be fine.
