tonight i was driving home in my 2000 tl p from work and my buddy who drives a cobalt wanted to race me. I din't hink anything of it and underestimated him. he was neck to neck with me. I couldn't believe it.

then i put it in tip tronic and trned traction off. then i beat him by maybe half a car.
this doesn't sound normal to be. a 4cyl cobalt against a 3.2 v6 with vtec.

maybe it's because i don't really know ho to shift in trip tronic but still this is horible. does anyone have any idea what i should do next time in a race. (as far as shifing maybe take off in D then shift to Triptronic. any help would be great.

p.s both cars are stock. i put afatermarket wheels and a system in, his car is stock.

The extra unsprung weight from your wheels didn't help you. How big are your wheels? How heavy is your system?

The TL was not built for that, it is a 4 door sedan. If you really want to race someone get a supra, wrx, M5, or a vette.

personally what i do is carry it thru the gears manually. drop the shifter down to 1 and work thru that way. it takes sum practice to time it perfectly with the shift delay, but i cant stand when it shifts u to 2nd automatically. for me triptronics only good on the freeway....but thats me.

no, it wasn't a cobalt ss.

I have 18" diablo rims on the car. 3 12" subs, and 2 amps. plus i had a passenger.

i raced him a few times everytime i beat him more, but the thing is that i don't exactly know how and when to shift.

also i do wanna do some work to the car but like one of u guys said it's not for racing. Are there any quick and not too expensive mods to do to my car that would maybe give me like +10 horses? everything under the hood is bone stock.

the rims and added weight with stereo and passenger is what kept it close. Headers and intake and UP pulley will all add noticable HP gains and will all work well together, and fine on their own.Exhaust is usless for any thing more than sound on our car

i raced a cobalt with my 3.0cl (i/h/e) with 18" rims and beat it by like 1.5 cars. and that was lettin the tranny shift itself. do a compression test maybee? see whats goin on in your engine.
