High Flow Cat

High Flow Cat
So I wanted to mostly add some more exhaust sound for my TL (and some hp). Right now I have 2 Tsudo axlebacks with a mid-muffler delete. I saw this Direct Fit High Flow Cat online http://www.andysautosport.com/acura/...n02032260.html It's under the 99-03 TL section, but it say it fits the 99TL. Would it still fit my 2002 TL?
Also how much of a sound difference would their be after I put this in? Would it be in lower or higher RPMs?

I don't think a high flow cat will improve the exhaust sound--it will probably add a little rasp. Gains will be unnoticeable.
According the magnaflow's site #27403 is the correct one, not the 27402 you linked to.
However you also way to consider the diameter. I don't see the diameter of this cat on the site, but you'd want one with the same diameter as the rest of your piping. I can't recall offhand if the type P and S models have different exhaust diameters.

Ok great, thanks for the correct part number. It looks like this is the correct one. http://www.convertershack.com/produc...tic-converter/
Can anyone give some thoughts on the sound this would put out? Would it be a louder sound all around, or higher/lower RPMs? Or would it make my car sound like a raspy mess...?

I got the XLR8 cat, and mine rasps a little bit when i step moderately hard on the gas pedal. It annoyed me a little at first, but I got used to it. Besides that, I didn't notice much of a change in sound when I put it on. I already had a catback exhaust on, which made the most difference.
BTW, do you have headers? I'd consider that first before changing out the cat unless the cat is failing.

No I have stock headers, but to get a good set of headers it's like $300-375? That's a lot for my 18 year old self... I might get them eventually, but I wanted a cheaper exhaust mod for more sound, and this was a good option I thought...
Or would you suggest me getting a cheap set of headers instead of the HF cat? Like so http://www.ebay.com/itm/6-2-1-Racing...-/271100246681

It's your car and your money, so do what you feel is best.
In my opinion, paying $200 for a high flow cat gets you virtually nothing. Paying $325 for headers gets you the biggest HP bang for your buck. I have both, and if I were you, I'd want my precious money spent on something with proven gains.
The other question is are you able and have you the tools to install the headers yourself? The cat is simply six bolts (albeit possibly very rusty bolts); the headers take more time a patience.
Okay, I'll butt out and let the cool kids respond now.

My high flow cat didn't change the exhaust note that much. The headers made it a little bit louder so I would save up and get a set of DC Sport header. I got mine for around 300$ and it gave a big improvement in power.

Do you think since you have a catback exhaust it was already pretty loud, so you didn't notice the High Flow cat? Would having axlebacks make the high flow cat sound more noticeable?

I put it on when I only had a mid muffler delete and comptech axle back. I got the b pipe shortly after to make it a cat back. The headers made a bigger difference in sound and performance. Luckily I didn't have any rasp with my high flow cat which is what I was afraid of when they were putting it on

Ok, I might get headers then... You said they were around $300 for DC headers, do you have a link of where you got them? Also how much did you pay for a shop to put them in, or did you do it yourself?

If you go with DC Sports headers - check the welds in a dark room with a flashlight. My set (along with others') had a small crack in the weld, so I ended up returning them and picked up some Comptech's from the black market.
I ordered my DC headers from Streesideauto. They often have coupons for $25 off, bringing the headers down to around $300 (free shipping too). After I found the weld crack, they RMA'd my headers and gave me a full refund on them quickly.

I havent been on for a while and this thread is probably really old but,,, I have comptech headers and atlp exhaust. For some reason ive been really pumped about this summer and am thinking abouut the excelerate high flow cat. I noticed some shit bouncing(metal clunking inside of cat) around my stock cat when I did the headers/j pipe install. what will be the gains? im affraid of rasp. how much louder will it be? how much more stress would it put on my trans?
