Help to improve mileage - 2001 Acura 3.2 TL

I own a 2001 Acura 3.2 TL with 86K miles on it.
I have been getting a very poor gas mileage on it.
Every time I fill the tank, i get around 220 miles. That is all.. :-(
That is around 14.5 mpg.

Can you please suggest what I could do to improve the gas mileage?

TIA

you can read any of the several gas mileage threads or look up seafoam diy, and then change the plugs- based on their miles. and hows the air filter?
run some cleaner thru the gas
What kind of oil- how does it look and smell on the dipstick
set tires at 34 or 36 front, and 32 to 34 rear

keep revs under 3000-3500,use light to mid pressure throttle, stay away from full throttle and especially dont use vtec- dont go above 4500 rpm, use cruise control all the time you can

Something(s) are very wrong with your car. A lot of the basic maintence you can DIY with the help of this site.

Oil change
Air filter
Spark plugs
Seafoam
Tire pressure
EGR valve cleaning
PCV valve cleaning/replacement

It sounds to me that the car has been neglected for some time. Is the check engine light on?

I would also suggest changing:

Trans fluid
Coolant
Brake fluid
Timing belt/Water pump service
Check tire condition, pressure, wear.
Alignment

We need some info on what maintence has or has not been completed.

That would suck with the gas prices we have now. And do what 01tl4tl says.

Seafoam FTW!

I drive both city and highway and I am get atleast 600km to a tank. I am at 3/4 of a tank and at 201km so you must be really pushing that car with a dirty air filter

Have you checked your brakes? Do you feel like there's dragging or anything holding the car back?

thats about the same for me, 450km before the light comes on..around 20-21mpg...for me it's 95% city driving though..so I guess that's normal since it's rated at 19mpg for the city.

srtorelli, how do you get 200km at 3/4 tank??? at 3/4tank, i can only get 100km...i guess u do a lot of hwy driving?

Can of Seafoam in the fuel tank, do the seafoam vacuum line DIY, a little in the crankcase right before an oil change (do a search), new spark plugs if you need them, a drop in K&N air filter and lower your speed on the highway by 10mph. No hard acceleration ( i know that is hard )...driving slower and easing on acceleration has really improved my mileage on my Type S. I was getting about 220 city..now, I get between 290 and 330 befoe low fuel light..I got almost 500 miles one time on a road trip just going the speed limit..this was fall so I had no A/C on, but still..that is damn good..

get some maintenance done on the car( new spark plugs, air filter, fuel filter, etc.) seafoam wouldn't hurt either, check tire pressure, change driving style, get rid of unnecessary junk in the car or trunk
