Governor???
Governor???
OK, call me stupid
, but do the '03 TL-S's have a governor? I only had mine up to 120,(complete stock other than a K&N air filter, the filter not the intake) but at idle or in nuetral it redlines at 5000RPM. Is there a way to make it go beyond that?

not to be rude, but it may be much more helpful to post in the 2nd Gen section as you have a 2003 Tl. BUt if you meant 2004, the governer limits the car at about 152 or 160 MPH. Also the car has many rev limiters set. In Park and netural it is set to 5000 RPM. In driving gears it is set to shift about 500 RPM befor redline on an Auto, but on a manual, there is a rev limiter at about 7K RPMs.

DOH!!!!! my bad......thanks.......
Rev wise your car will rev to 6900 RPM since its a Type-S. The TL-P is 6700 unless in Sport mode, during which it also goes to 6900 RPM. Of course these numbers assume you are not in park. I'm not sure about rev limiting in park since I don't regularly rev my car in park. Speed wise, which is what the govenor does, both TL-P's and your Type-S are limited at 149MPH. I've taken my TL-P to 147mph but I was coming to a turn and didnt want to risk death just to go the additional 2mph. Also, where as your guage may say you are doing a set speed, you in actuallity probably aren't. The higher in speed you go, the more inaccurate your guage is. So you might go 146mph according to your guage and really be going or 149, or maybe it says 153mph but still its 149. Either way you cannot pass 149mph (under your cars own power that is) without modifying your ECU. Sure you could probably slingshot it past that by going down a steep mountain and blowing NOS at the last minute or something, but once you hit 149 your ECU will cut the fuel down enough to not allow your engine to power you any further.
Hope that helps

Funny how I just happened to pick 153 as a scenario number and its the same one you had
ALSO, rim and tire sizes affect the accuracy of your cars computer to determine your speed.
