Got my headers, Ice Box, UR Pulley installed

The dealership did the work. 2 hours for the headers, 2 for the pulley, and 1.5 for the Icebox. I am on vacations, and it's -5 out so I didn't attempt to do the work myself.

Haven't really opened it up yet but so far I don't notice any strange noise. Can hear a bit more growl when I accelerate hard but definitely not loud. Will drive more before coming up with a conclusion.

I do like the looks of the icebox and XS header. The old header where heavy, as was the pulley.

The dealer actually installed aftermarket parts for you? Damn, didn't think they'd do that unless they sold them to you... How much was the labour rate? I can't get my oil filter off and I was considering taking it to them. I broke a metal filter wrench trying, haha.

~Cheers~

5.5 hours of labor, most likely about $90 an hour, so around $495-550, maybe less if he's lucky.

dealer sure makes lots of money :P .... I don't have my header, but the shop I went to, also made $$. They spent 30 min installed my UR pulley, 20 min for my intake, but total they charged me 1.5 hr.

nice. should have done the work yourself though. i know it was super duper cold outside, but for 500 dollars, i'd do the work in antarctica.

The Unorthodox Racing Pulley is basically a lighter version of the stock engine pulley, though they also have an Underdrive one, which means less power goes to other stuff. You can get the icebox at http://www.ct-engineering.com/

Seems like I can squeal the tire more easily now. Not sure why since the gain is at high end and many say you lose a bit on the low end.

I like it. The Icebox and the headers are not loud though. May the sound will change once the parts are broken in. I remember my K&N filter on my 02 Maxima was loud when you throttle hard. I don't mind it the way it is however.

the icebox isn't a loud intake like aem or injen, but it's got a sporty sound to it. The headers won't make a difference in sound though. The pulley will give you mroe power through the entire powerband and the intake will give you a little extra down low but mostly all up top and headers are midrange and high end only. have you gone on a spirited run yet?

Not sure where you heard that, but Comptech makes the IceBox for both the TL-P and the TL-S. I know - I have the Icebox on my TL-S.

Maybe you're thinking about the AEM V2 intake - that CAI was designed only for the TL-P.

The TL-S/CL-S Icebox is probably Comptech's most popular Icebox. They have different ones for the TL-P too.

this is where i was looking:
http://www.ct-engineering.com/store/330140tl.html

it specifically says not for Type-S...

i just installed a K&N drop-in filter because i didn't think there were any other worthwhile options.

what kind of filter does the icebox use?

by the way, what's the deal with comptech? seems like they're on and off or something.

Ok, car seems to pull nicely, I am liking it. Have to take it in to get the alarm checked as they need to redo the immobolizer (it cranks but no start). When I steer during very low speed I can hear squeeking sound. Not sure what that is. I think it's the susp. as I get the same squeek when I am driving slowly and over bumps.

It's not on the site currently but it is available for the Type S. It is part # 330-145 and I have them available if you need one for $280 shipped.

thanks for the update, excelerate. much appreciated, i wish i'd looked around more on this site before getting the simple K&N - i found the answer to my own question by looking at your post over in the black market.

but alas, gotta pull out of the xmas financial crunch before i can futz around with more toys for the car.

i'll certainly keep this in mind tho.

my only other question was about rear swaybars - the neuspeed kit on their site has the same diameter as the TL-S factory rear, so that's a waste. eibach's rear is larger than 19mm, but comes in a kit with the front (waste of time and money). i see that comptech makes a 22mm, and you mentioned a "progress" bar? - anyplace i can see more info and details on that?

Eibach makes a front and rear sway bar kit (27 and 23MM respectively). Progress makes a 24mm adjustable RSB for the 04+ TL but it can fit the 2nd gen TL.

After installing some headers for my buddy's AV6, the exhaust note changed. Not really significantly, but it was noticable.

I personally like having a box over a regular aftermarket pipe because it's one less shiny thing in the bay for a cop to harass you for. Besides, IIRC, boxes have always tested as giving up the best combo of power/sound.

~Cheers~
