Generic CAI install review

I bought the generic long tube cai with stainless mesh filter the other night for $47 shipped. It was the cl-s version but I figure I can make it fit at the price I got it for.

First off throw the filter away . It's not a filter its a steel mesh not a filter

Second if it says cl-s that means it is 3" inch tube with no 3" to 2.75 reducer.

Third the cl-s version is about 4 inch short at the throttle body and 2" inch too long at filter end.

I used a k&n 3" filter I had laying around to replace the piece of crap mesh thing a mid jig filter.
I test fit the pipe where it needs to go after removing the resonator and air box. It looked good but I forgot to test fit it with the air filter on it.

Then I used a piece of 2.75 radiator hose to extend the pipe from the cai to the throttle body.

Routed air hoses to underside of pipe and screwed them down.
Then went to put in air filtering pipe.
Whoops now the pipe moved so it would not bolt down.
And the filter hit the bumper.
So end up cutting the end of the tube to move the air filter away from bumper.
Then jig everything around to line it up.
Tighten it up and got it tighten down.
Review. Now have a low harmonic hum from tube at idle.
Bit more power , maybe rev a bit more? Not much as headers but a difference
More sound, lots more at 4,500 when VTec kicks in

Next time I think I will spend more for AEM V2

Will try and add pictures tomorrow

Just a FIY, there is NO difference between the CL-S and TL-S intakes. They work on either car. The only difference is the CL-S 6 speed manual. It doesnt have VSA and will be a longer tube by the throttle body. The ones that wont work are the ones designed for the TL-S/CL-S on the TL-P and the CL-P, as the TL/CL-p dont have VSA

Pictures

Understood on TL-S/CL-S length of CAI on the throttle side. That is why in the picture I attached you can see the Extension i added in as I have a TL-P.

I figured I could make it work as the piping is 3" - For $48 shipped to me I figured the bends alone were worth it. Basically I threw the extension in to see if I liked it. I plan on getting a 3" to 2.75 muffler pipe and weld on two nipples for the air lines to attach to.

The difference is that in the one that I received the length is too long on the bumper side if you use a different k&N filter. That is why I had to cut it on the bumper side.

I still have a different K&N sitting on my shelf its a jwt pop charger with 3.5" out that I could fab up. Just have to see what happens

For a laugh look at the picture of the Filter from the inside.
