Gas milage

Ok, I know I've read threads about this acetone in the gas tank theory and it sounds like b.s. but has anyone tried it?

if you dont like your TL - go for it
Otherwise 91 octane and avoid MTB additive and ethanol over 10 percent

Also for gas mileage considerations, check the following:

1) Seafoam engine!
2) Injector/Fuel cleaning system
3) Check Tire Pressure
4) Check rotors/pad ( for tire and driving purposes )
5) Be easy on the pedal.

Yeah, but that still doesnt answer my ?. What happens if its added to the gas tank, there has to be somebody that has tried it, or somebody that knows.

why dont YOU risk an engine? and get back to us!!
We have suggested things proven to help gas mileage in the TL
If anyone comes across a way for us to get 5mpg more we would all be using it~

NO threads about how great it is here- hmmm wonder why that would be....

Yes, I am currently putting acetone with regular gas in my tank for improving MPG. It really work on my TL. My TL was used to be really bad on MPG like many of other TL owner , since I started to use it improve 2~3 MPG that's not too bad result from small effort. Before I have tried many things to conserve on gas by like easy on gas hardly over 2000 rpm even on freeway, tires, seaform even I have tried Mothball in my tank. I have change the spark plug 5~6 months ago, but did'nt make any better on mpg that I expected. I used to get only 18~19 but now 21 or over never look down 20 again.

Mid thirties? Either your math is off or your not driving a TL. I dont think theres anyone on here that comes close to that. If I'm wrong please let me know and tell me your secret because I average low 20s.

On the highway? With a little less that 13 gallons in the tank ive gotten almost 440 miles on a tank while driving to virginia. If my math serves me correct thats about 34 gallons. Maybe I should've specified in my last post I meant mid-thirties while on the highway

I just recently tested my mpg driving in the mountains, and I'm right at 220 miles after half a tank (6.9 gallons), so that's about 31 mpg. Completely stock btw.

That is not very good mileage. I get more than that with a heavy foot and mostly city

Although, just to keep in mind, you now have a MT, and, if I remember correctly, your car is lighter than most due to the tranny. But that of course is a moot point if you were getting great gas mileage before the swap also.

I looked into the acetone online and snopes says it doesn't work in the lab and results are iffy at best. There is more downside to putting that stuff in your car.

I personally get 30mpg+ on highway, and have gotten up to 38mpg to a tank. These great mpg all come from a long 2000 mile road trip where it was pure highway and all cruise control.

3 Adults, A/C, 400W power supply running, full trunk and 70-90mph driving.

Summer is quickly upon us and there will be another long distance road trip. I will attempt to duplicate this, and come back with documentation.

But you also have to put city and highway factor into this. More stopping, more accelerating, = increase in gas usuage. Highway, is just straight without traffic lights to deal with, but in the city, you tend to have WAy more stops. Take that into consideration.

In a properly tuned TL using cruise on the highway should be in the low 30's mileage wise. City driving is another story....

The most important item for good mileage is air pressure - you want to have about 34psi cold in your tires - less rolling resistance but still wears the tread properly.

lol i get like 250 for a full tank, almost all city. and i really don't drive hard at all, because of my gas mileage sucking so bad. i don't understand how you guys can get such great mileage city driving. and yeah i seafoamed, and my tires are inflated to about 38 all around.. i mean i do have extra weight in the car, such as subs, but still i don't think i should be getting this low mileage

Well I do mostly highway driving to class and work. Thats why I average so much. But when I do predominatly city driving I average about that for a full tank

all depends on where and how you drive bro

Ok I was going off my average of about 23. More city than hwy. But still I don't understand how people can get 5 miles+ a gallon over what Acura says the TL gets. If theres are true numbers wouldn't Acura rather say 30+ than 27 mpg hwy?

I think the EPA sets the MPG rating and we all know their testing is not real world.

its based on govt testing method which has little relation to life on Earth
Last year the govt decided the numbers were not accurate and changed
to a more realistic test method.
Result is new cars now claim lower mileage than before!

How hard you push the gas pedal to what rpm- type of tires (not just pressure) added weight, even brand of gas can change the mileage

Have you seafoamed with the new correct vac port AT the TB, not the old way with the small vac hose to the rear of the engine? that one only cleaned 3 cylinders--ooops
New method rocks!!- several members are raving about the improved running doing the foam right

Funny you mention the EPA ratings drop. I've noted the same thing. I wonder if that means they'll be even further from the truth for the TL?

The old EPA standards were just that, old. I think they tested the highway mileage at like 40 or 50 mph since most highways had speed limits that low in the past. Now that they have upped the speeds at which they test MPG, the numbers are lower.

Way. No modifications to the car. Run was from SF to Grand Caynon, non-stop and then back 3 days later.

Depending on how you drive and the traffic cruise isn't always the same. For this straight shot we drove with next to no traffic and rarely came out of cruise or ever got on it hard. There was no passing involved and very little stopping/starting.

On the way there we only stopped twice. I actually drove the entire trip 2AM to 4PM

I drive an 00 3.2 TL.

You probably have seen me around, but it's a stock TL.

Your rims probably are the factor in your mpg being so low.

Smile Lead vs feather foot

Have any of you experience this...
When I drive my TL real hard, stomp the pedal to the metal all the time, I get about 310 miles to a tank.
& then...
When I am really careful and drive very senior like, I only get ~350 to the last drop on a full tank.
It's not a major difference, considering the tank is about 16 gallons.
Is it because of the Vtec? that I am getting only slightly better mileage by driving carefully?

i've tried acetone in the gas tank, it does nothing.
threw a bottle of seafoam in the tank yesterday and filled her up, i can feel the throttle response difference, slight acceleration. and that's just a pint in a 14 gallon tank, not even crankcase or vac line yet

try using seafoam the ziner tested methods of:
8 ounces to 1/4 tank of gas for max cleaning effect
same for intake maifold- and do it AT the throttle body port
plus 8 oz in the engine oil right before a change.
Max doseages = max effect
