Expectaions on removing the resonator...

I cannot seem to find a diy or specs on power gains when removing resonator and replacing stock filter with k&n filter? My apologies if this is an unnecessary clutter of a post. If there is a thread on this same subject, can you please redirect me? I have a 2000 tl black on black, just getting into the car. Need suggestions on mods as well, great site by the way.

I don't know for sure but I would say close to that of a CAI. I mean the only thing you are missing is an air "funnel" to direct the air into the filter.

As for gains no one has dynoed it so we dont actually know if there is any performance from removing the resonator and adding a K&N. I have it done and i surely like the sound better. If i had to guess id say there is probably some gains.

the UR pully, CAI and header are probably your best mods for more HP (that can be reasonable in price)

are the headers an easy install, or should I shop the car? I was given a 2005 tl as a loaner, so I'm sure mine will feel slow tomorrow. I've heard, or rather read, that they change the ecm as well as a possible fuel press. reg. replacement. Thanks for the advice, new to this import game. Love these cars, but I need navigation, tired of using my laptop for directions.

You'll probably need a shop to help install hearders, because you need to have teh car on a lift and you need a couple of friends to help.

gotcha, ok, sounds like some cahs to spend. Is there a diy on how to remove the resonator on this forum, or maybe I was thinking of buying the aem v2 kit instead, less hassle.

Well you gotta remove the resonator to install the V2 anyway.

in response to remove res.

it sounds so much better when the car hits 45K rpm.... really growls...sounds mean...as far as performance the car def. breathes better I would say maybe 1 to 3 hp gain...but you'll love the way it sounds

i removed both intake resonators and installed a K&N filter 9 mnths-1yr ago and it sounds very nice and there is a butt dyno gain. A CAI will yield a little more HP, but not much. I just installed a CAI(albeit an AEM knockoff, still same performance gain) and I could feel a small difference and it is louder. To do the resonator removal just take off your bumper and it is 1-2 screws to loosen and it comes right off. then change air filter to k&N and you are done. it is very easy.
