The problem is that one shouldn't have to read 11 pages to get it right the first time. Each page is 40 posts. That's 440 posts to read. I agree with a new thread only describing the correct procedure & then being locked. Then leave this thread for comments/problems.
#485
you really only need to read the part about where and how much to use, skip the rest of the pages
rockstar- you said you read the can and therefor know all there is to know about its proper use.
Then you have less than satisfactory results- blame the seafoam,
attempts are made here to correct your understanding and what comes back is attitude
Your welcome for the help~
Perhaps you will do better paying the shop/dealer $100-150 for a fuel induction treatment service---guess what they use!!!!

you cant hurt the O2 sensor- all that happens is crud-goo gets on the sensor and needs that high heat high rpm afterdrive to blow it off
Otherwise it bakes on and has to work itself off with use of a few days

The Dumb One
iTrader: (1)
the fuse thing worked yesterday, and i was greatful for the help, but i didnt think it was necessarry to make it seem like i was too dumb to read the 11 pages. i thought i made it clear i was on my cell and it wasnt ideal at the time.
anyway.. thanks
anyway.. thanks

What your problem is?
I get CELs on and off when I seafoam. They clear after a couple miles or so though. But I think I may have screwed my O2 sensors the first time I did it.

I missed the part about reading off a cell phone- sorry--we do get a lot of repeat questions as the 11 pages shows
My issue is when people say `the can told them all they need to know`, but they want to dispute the diy and question the products effectivness when they clearly failed to follow any directions!
1/5th a can? thats not anywhere on the label (which for marketing purposes says 1/3 can in each- gas, vac port and oil) Website has more directions and the deep creep (spray can seafoam) even more. Its like wd- what wont it do~
Like I said before regarding a new diy, my opinions are free--
Time to organize the best pics and write a new thread----money talks, bull searches 11 pages

HINT: gen3 has a very good DIY seafoam- main post covers most aspects and was recently written
the only differance is we gen2 manually open the throttle while they have fly by wire, and the vac port is a few inches different location but has the same hose and squeeze clamp- the clamp is the thing to look for to idenify the main vac port hose at the TB- must remove engine top plastic cover to access these parts
Happy foaming to all and to all...I'm going for a bike ride, it gets seafoamed too!

havent been on the forums in awhile due to school, but i have seafoamed in the past before.
at the time i remember there was discussion about whether or not using the vac line was cleaning all the valves/cylinders?
and now people are questioning whether to use seafoam?
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...hlight=seafoam
what's a better product to use?

the CORRECT vac line has been determined to be AT the Throttle Body connector to the intake on the front side of the engine
the very small vac line that feeds the rear of the manifold was only getting the rear 3--ooops
the true main vac port pulls over 20 inches of suction- thats a lot
Any discussion of `does seafoam work` is from people who never tried it or have other product they prefer,
Its been around since 1940,,,all it takes is a small amount of undertstanding and application to get best results

few questions, I'm a noob
1. what is the vac line? sounds like the vac line is where the throttle is, where you could rev your engine from under the hood? someone have a picture of how to use it through the vac line?
2. my engine should be warmed up when I use the seafoam? someone people used a whole can, and some used 1/3 can in the oil. Should I change the oil after the spirited drive? after all the smoke is gone? is it a good time to use it right before I'm ready to change my oil?
3. how much seafoam should I use for the gas tank.

Burning Brakes
writeup for 2009
i thought i'd try and clean this up a bit...this is a first draft. I've shamelessly stolen pics, video and terminology from 6MTUA5, indoMFP, 01tl4tl and AMGala--if you or a mod are not cool with this, I sincerely apologize and please feel free to remove the offending material from this post. Also, I'm not sure how to properly embed pics and video in posts, so if something shows up as a link please fix. 01tl4tl or another seafoam expert, please double check the amounts I've called for here, and of course make sure that I'm not giving wrong instructions here.
I haven't actually done this procedure yet, will be doing it next weekend (once my transmission is broken in) and wanted a unified set of instructions to follow...so here we go!
These instructions assume you will be doing all 3 Seafoam treatments (gas, oil and intake vac port). I take no responsibility for anything bad that may happen to you, your car, or surrounding members of the community as a result of following these instructions.
It should go without saying that you need to do this outside…but you never know, someone might try it in a closed garage…
If you ask any questions that are a result of your not reading this entire post and following the instructions to the letter, I will hunt you down and destroy you.
READ THIS ENTIRE POST AND UNDERSTAND IT BEFORE YOU TRY ANYTHING!
Things you will need:
10mm socket and wrench
5/16” vac hose (available at any parts store)
32 oz of Seafoam (some cans are 8oz, some are 16oz, so just get 32oz total. If you can get 16 oz of Seafoam Deep Creep that’s good for using in the intake vac port)
clear bottle of at least 16 oz capacity if not using Deep Creep--MAKE SURE TO CLEAN AND DRY THOROUGHLY BEFORE PUTTING IN THE SEAFOAM!
Gas level should be at ¼ tank or less…otherwise you need to have more Seafoam on hand (the rule is 2oz per gallon in the tank, so ½ tank means you should put 16 oz in the gas).
1. Remove the engine cover with the 10mm socket. I found that this wasn’t actually necessary on my 99 TL-P, but regardless if/when you do so, it will look like this:![](http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/8479/img2567df7.th.jpg)
1a. Now is a good time to put your Seafoam in the gas, to be absolutely sure that during the burnoff drive there is Seafoam coming through the fuel injectors as well. Remember, the rule is 2oz per gallon of gas in the tank, so ¼ tank gets 8oz, ½ tank gets 16oz, etc.
2. Go for a drive of about 15 minutes to warm the engine up.
3. Turn the car off and open the hood.
4. Find this vac hose:
![](http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/6953/dsc04692pr7.th.jpg)
and remove that end with all the arrows on it. Now you should be left with a metal nipple about 1 inch long. Put your 5/16” hose on this.
5. If you are going to use Deep Creep, just chill for a moment.
6. If you are not using Deep Creep, pour 16oz Seafoam into your clear plastic bottle (of course, before you put the Seafoam in, it should be ABSOLUTELY clean and dry). This will allow you to observe how fast the Seafoam is going in, so you can meter it more precisely.
7. Start the engine. If it runs a little funny that’s ok, it’s normal with the vac hose off.
Now the fun starts…MAKE SURE TO “INSTALL” THE SEAFOAM SLOWLY!
8. If you are using the Deep Creep, spray-wait-spray-wait the product into the vac hose. If not using Deep Creep, then take the end of your 5/16” vac hose and hold it slightly above the surface of the Seafoam in the clear bottle…there should be plenty of suction to inhale it. Don’t do that too quickly though, you want the product to go in slowly for max effect. Imagine you are sipping a fine wine with a particularly attractive date….don’t want to gulp it all down and make an ass of yourself now do you? Neither does the engine. Whether using Deep Creep or the normal stuff, you want it to take a long time to suck in the Seafoam…so you’re aiming for at least 10 minutes. The car may want to die, just give it a moment to clear its throat and resume the seafoaming. If it actually stalls, that’s ok, just restart it. Some smoke near the end is normal, depending on how long it takes you to empty the Seafoam bottle. If the cooling fans turn on back away and wait till they turn off. Patience is the key here. Note: if your car is billowing smoke out of the tailpipe and you only have 12oz in, that’s probably enough…
9. When finished with step 8, turn the car off. Reconnect the original vac hose, put the engine cover back on, close the hood, wash hands, check your email, etc. Elapsed time should be 15 minutes. This allows the Seafoam to dissolve the deposits it stuck to, turning them into goo that you will subsequently burn off.
Now the real fun starts.
10. Turn the car on. It could take a few seconds to start. It may look like this: http://youtube.com/watch?v=sCQpwEcynkk
11. Once the idle smoothes out a little (shouldn’t be very long at all) you can go for your burnoff drive. I suggest a freeway frontage road or some other place that's empty...
12. While obeying all traffic and safety laws, hold the revs above 4000rpm (average) for 15 minutes. You want to take it up through vtec many times…but don’t redline it. So maybe hold it in 2nd and rev from low speed to 5500 rpm to 4000rpm, then keep oscillating between 4000 and 5500, sometimes go down to 2000 and then floor it to 5800, etc…the key point is that most of the time the revs are pretty high, and the load is continuously changing so you get waves of heat to burn off the deposits. If you don’t have a suitable area to do the above technique, maybe you can just hold it at 4500rpm in 2nd for 15 mins and be ok. You should be making a lot of smoke so you may want to try this at night on an empty road (good for you, reading the whole post before starting, now you know to plan ahead).
All done with the intake vac and gas! After a few days you may want to change the spark plugs if you have a lot of miles.
Now for the oil treatment….make sure you are able to have an oil change immediately after doing this method…not recommended if you have a lot of miles on the filter (I’ll be doing this at 3750 miles)
13. With the engine off, open the engine oil filler cap. If you can’t find it, look in the manual.
14. Pour in 8oz of Seafoam (the normal stuff, not deep creep)
15. Drive normally to your oil change place, or drive around fairly gently (maybe keep revs below 3000rpm) for about 10-15 minutes.
16. Change the oil.
That’s it! You’re all done…wasn’t that easy?
FAQ:
Q: My engine stalled when it was sucking in the Seafoam--have I destroyed my car?
A: No. Restart it and keep going.
Q: The check engine light turned on after putting Seafoam in the intake vac port--have I destroyed my car?
A: No, some residue has probably stuck to an O2 sensor or something. It won't hurt anything and should burn off (thus turning the light off) during your burnoff drive. If not, either you didn't drive it hard enough or have a LOT of goo--in this case pull the passenger side clock fuse to reset the ECU.
Q: I got the engine to suck in all the Seafoam in 30 seconds and no smoke--does that mean I'm better than you?
A: No, it means you did it wrong. The Seafoam sucking should take at least 10 minutes.
again, feel free to edit this as you see fit, it's just a first draft and i haven't actually done this for myself. hope it helps!

I got lost partway thru this but there are SEVERAL errors off the top
16 oz is the size cans- not 8 oz- its not made~ you read the old seafoam info!
Idle speed and a 2000 rpm blaster speed can be used in combo doing the vac method.
1/2 gas tank- 1 can seafoam
Use CLEAR plastic HOSE to suck up the seafoam if no clear bottles on hand- I dont use glass around the pool or the car~
Make sure the TB plate gets cleaned with Deep Creep or carb cleaner spray
come back and rewite after a few foamings, and thanks for the effort so far

When the fan comes on it blows hot air on you- thats why you step back~
rpm should not exceed 5000 on the blow out drive- leave room for error with lots of crud flying loose-literally

deep creep is 100% seafoam- its not different- just in a spray can for many uses beside engine vac port

do you have to change the oil right away? I just seafoamed my car today, didn't do it right though, through the vac line, was too quick, could I redo again or would it be too soon?

i got a good majority of the can quickly into the vac port, by accident, when I initially turned the engine on, sucked the first bit of seafoam, engine was choking and died out, then I left the end of the vac line in the bottle, sucked a majority of it when I started it back again. but it still did the trick

did my seafoaming today, put a can in the half tank of gas, put some in the oil, drove around for ~15 min and changed it out with mobil 1 extended performance (adv auto parts had a special today, 5 quarts + filter for $30), put in another can thru the intake, filled an elementary school parking lot with smoke...
end result:
i can't tell the car is on when idling, and i've never felt it pull half as hard as it does now! now i just need to reset the ecu and be done (no CEL though)

Finally did the seafoam today! Engine is running a lot smoother, still have to do the gas tank and change spark plugs.
The hose I used was very long, but it was easy to regulate how much seafoam the vac sucked in.

Poured the SeaFoam into a half cut water bottle.

yea a whole can in each, oil, vac line, and tank. Do it just like SSTL did, empty a clean bottle, suck it through a hose for the vac line, supposed to do it slowly. warm up the car first with a ten min drive.

What if I just use one can in the tank and one in the oil ? because I am not a mechanic and dont think I can do the vac line myself.
So after I pour it in the oil, how long after do I need to do an oil change ?
What if I just pour a can in the tank ? will it still be a good cleaner ? a whole can to what amount of gas ?
