Custom stereo

I just got a dvd screen for my 2003 acura tl and was wondering how others have installed theirs. Do you bypass the factory amp and run soley off the deck or do u still utilize the bose amps. And, if you do bypass, how does it sound after compared to before?

I think when you disconnect the factory head unit, the amp goes along with it if im not mistaken. Alot of the guys on here have an aftermarket amp along with their system

But im sure guys will chime in with exactly what they're workin with

When factory HU is disconnected, the factory sub/amp itself gets disconnected as well. However, you can run a RCA wire which is spliced from one end, to the amp it self I believe. Search it "Keeping Factory Bose Sub" or check the Audio section.

This is what you'll need to keep the sub working,
https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-tl-performance-parts-modifications-116/retain-working-bose-sub-when-changing-aftermarket-headunit-690434/

As for the speakers, they will sound much better when you use the amp built on to the screen you've just bought. No rewiring needed to do it but get a Metra 1721 Harness or quivalent brand just fitted for a honda and it'll work just fine. Did my whole system this weekend, works beautifully. Any Q's just ask me!!

As others have stated, in our cars the bose amp for the speakers is the HU. Once removed you dont need to bypass any thing. You will have to use the link provided to get the sub to work though.

I am new to the zine and I have had my 2001 acura TL for about a couple years now. I have spent about a year of this time in Iraq. I get back in Feb. So I will finally have some time to play and I need some info on building a beast for the road. I also want to know what size screen can I install in my TL. I have found a p4000tv and p5000tv. I like these pioneer screens better than some of the others but would you recommend some other brands? I am a old skool kind of cat, I like speed but luxury. Whatever knowledge youcan provide will really be appreciated.

Welcome to AZine.

Now to answer your questions, you can get ANYTHING for the TL. The question is only the money being spent. I have a Kenwood DNX5120 6.1 Touch Screen / DVD / Navi and the whole nine yards where the BOSE headunit used to be. You can get a bigger size ( 7 inch ), but of course more money. There are custom/universal ones being sold in the blackmarket from a vendor (uncald). Now, my system has everything "I" need, but you have to research on what you want. Honestly do luxury with the TL, VIP status, because it completely changes the look of the car. You can do the simple bolt ons but it won't make a drastic change. Do some research on the forum. Good luck!

Honestly. you dont need to take it to the shop. Everything is fairly simple and just need to understand the basic language ( which isn't hard either ). Try researching ahead of time before taking it to the shop. Make a thread, take pictures, and we can help you throughout. It's great for self experience and knowledge..

you guys seem like car audio gurus... i'll go ahead and ask this since so many have done the set up from the link above.. Does the sub sound like it did prior to the new HU? or does it just sound like a speaker shooting out sound? (like the ones in the doors?)

Can I install this in a '03 TL-S ? I tried looking it up on like crutchfield.com or mobile.jvc.com but they say it will not fit. I don't understand why . Here's the link with the specs:

http://www.mobile.jvc.com/product.js...hId=126&page=1

Do I have enough room ? Do you have a frame/mount for it ?

Dont bother keeping the bose amp and sub. As soon as i put in my double din i ran an after market amp and hooked up the bose sub and blew it to shreds. the bose amp is just a little 100watt amp. spend the money and get yourself some nice after market stuff. (MTX Jackhammer )

It should work fine. JVC never lists the front dimension specs but most of their double din radios are pretty universal.
