Advice on Exhaust Tips (temporary)

Ok so here is my situation. I am a college student graduating in May at which point I will begin to set aside money to continue towards my ultimate goal of going FI via the comptech super. As for now however I cannot stand the stock exhaust tips, so... my reservation on purchasing an axle-back now is that if I go FI in the future I will want to have the cat-back. The cat-back is out of my price range so in your opinion should I:

a.) purchase the axle-back now and deal with the possible restriction when I go FI in the future since me actually getting the comptech super may never happen

b.) purchase tips now and buy the cat-back when I am working and have the extra cash

The catback/axleback choices are comptech and the HKS dragger ( CLICK HERE FOR HKS EXHAUST )

The tips would be these (opinions please!) (CLICK HERE FOR TIPS )

Thanks for reading all this and your opinions on the best choice guys!

Well if your long-term goal is forced induction, I would put aside the money that you would spend on an axle-back system and put it towards the supercharger - and just buy the tips for now - those are really nice looking tips and I considered buying those in the past as well.....

Thanks for the replies. I think I am going to go with the tips for now...the only reason being looks obviously. For some reason the stock tips are just too small of a diameter.

Bambo - I agree with you the tires looks extremely thin...not sure if it is just the angle it's shot at or what but there are no way those are as thick as stock.

Sort of off topic but....I've been trying to get my stock tips off but I just can't get the bolt under it off. Any suggestions of how I would to come about taking it off?

They make spray lubricants that loosen siezed bolts and screws. It's a similar formula to WD-40, so you could try that first and see if it helps out at all. I also wouldn't try to loosen it when the car exhaust is hot because the metal is obviously slightly expanded as compared to when it is completely cool.

I can never tell what cars have the "3A" tips and what cars have some other generic brand... but the link I have posted is the best I've seen I think.

Any links to pics of the 3A tips?

as for taking the bolt off why cant you remove it? is the head stripped off? I believe its a 10mm bolt. get a wrench on there and torque away. Spraying some penetrating oil on there will help too

They look just like the ones posted.

even those the tips you picked are not much wider, they are longer. the stock TL tips, when viewed from 50ft behind, you can see the bolts/strap that holds them on. the ones you picked out are very long and go well under the car. $50 is nothing, so its a good buy. its your car, if you like it, get them and enjoy them.

I had the same problem and accidentally broke the head off both bolts .. so i just got a drill and drilled out the bolt. Not the best way, but a decent last resort. I'd suggest something to loosen the bolts first like these other guys suggested
