6 Speed swap? help?

Well im currently saving up for the 6 speed swap and what is more worth it? Buy a CL type S crashed off an auction and swap engines and trans with ecu and etc? Or buy the trans itself with ecu and sensors and etc? I have an 03 TL type S so I don't think I wont need the engine out of CL type S will I?

Nope, you wont need the engine. Just need the front cam gear, cam sensors and crank gear and sensors. (and of course the manual engine harness)

Personally i would buy the trans and stuff to go along with it and buy a full standalone like the AEM EMS 30-6051 and find a tuner to tune it. You will get far better numbers out of the engine and have the ability to tune for future mods. Also it wont require you to change any wiring in the car. The cost of the AEM is about what you would spend on everything else.

So pretty much the whole swap will come out cheaper in this way as you're saying? And will the car think its a tl type s or cl type s then with the aem ecu? And is there a list of what I need somewhere for the swap?

It will come about the same. If it had been available when I did mine I would have in a heart beat. I fully plan on switching to it when I put my new motor in.

What do you mean will the car think its a tl-s or cl-s?

Yea there is a list BUT its not for if you use the aem, no one has done a day with it. For the most part You will need everything associated with the trans. Look in the diy thread or use the search button to see all the 6 speed threads.

Since the aem covers 3/4 of the swap how much will it all cost in your opinion? And I read about the ems having to use the civic cluster ? What is up with that?

You think you could help me with the EMS install? I'm fully ready to do it, but I would just love if you had already done it, so you could give all the tips.

I'm pretty much true manual atm, but can switch back to auto wiring easily. A quick write up would help me out alot. Or just let me buy you an EMS and you write a complete DIY.

? all depends on what you can get the parts for. Should be no reason you cant wire it up to work with the TL cluster. Most of the guys running it are running it in civics with the J32 and with the civic wiring.

CL-S cluster will be good. I think the parts out of the CL type S sound better to me with ECU. I don't have anyone that can tune an EMS for me and install it. And how long did it take you to do the 6mt swap?

If I had had all the parts before I installed it I could have done it in a day. Be prepared for lots of wiring going that route. You will have to do a bunch of repining of harnesses. Not trying to scare you from doing it. 85% or so is plug and play, 15% isnt and has to be repinned and figured out.

I got Rob to help and he says that it can be done easily no worries. Where did you get most of the parts from? And how much was the ECU and the tranny?

I got a lot of my stuff from car-part.com as well. If you look on fsttyms1's list a lot of the big ticket items(except clutch and actual trans) are really cheap brand new oem. I used acuraoemparts.com for my oem stuff. Just saving up for this AEM EMS now. In the next few months i should be done...hopefully

It's plug and play. Just hook all your auto sensors and harness back up, then plug the AEM in as you would the stock ECU

Put the key in the ignition DO NOT START IT! Hook up the USB to your computer, open AEM Tuner. Load the V6 Honda Acura calibration when it opens, click on ECU> Upload calibration and select the one you have and upload it. From there I believe it's ready to start. Should crank right over, then drive to a tuner for the rest

Where can I find a trans? I seem to have found some no accurate description of the conditions and what not. Any places I can look for one?

So I understand to use the Auto engine harness, but what about the dash harnesses? There are three inputs into the stock ECU: the Engine harness, and two dash harnesses. The manual harnesses are different than the auto ones.

If I use all 3 auto harnesses, that would make my life much easier. Will start looking for an EMS soon.

Im not sure myself on if the dash harnesses matter but i would think the main harness would be the 3 plug Engine harness as the main reason it wont work on the manual motor is the crank position sensor (the wiring for that and the 2 cam sensors is different).

I should know in a few months when i get and install mine .........(that is if i can get my new, new engine put together cough 3.7 cough)

The EMS has four plugs on it. A, B, C, D. A is your dash harness and B, C, and D are your engine harness plugs respectively.

However, One question I had when I was running the EMS was the plug on the driver's side of the OEM ECU. I had to have that plugged in to the OEM ECU and the rest of the plugs into the EMS or the car wouldn't start. I'm assuming because of the immobilizer?
