02 TL Power Window Mod Question

Hi all,

I just wanted to find out what might be required if I wanted to change all the windows in my 2002 TL to automatic windows like the drivers one where you can just lock it into position and it'll automatically take it all the way down or up.

Is such a mod even possible? Thanks for any answers!

No. Not possible.

Auto-up/down function requires that the power window motor to detect if the motor is spinning or has stopped. This information is fed back to the power window controller (PWC) in order to control the window motor accordingly.

Even if the non-feedback motors on the other 3 doors have been replaced with the driver-front one, the PWC has no provision to take in these 3 extra sets of information to implement the auto-up/down function for the other 3 doors.

From: u can find me in the A
just to add to the tease in ur brain what if u got a jap spec window motor and took the master switch apart and put in the auto swtich from the rhd edition
in theory wouldnt that be the same?

so you would have to get the jap window motor and the master switch or another window switch and just take the auto button

but no that wouldnt work the switch board that the button presses isnt designed for it.

ignore that

Putting in feedback type power window motors and master switches, and running extra wirings to the other 3 doors, is the easiest part. The hardest part is to make the power window controller to process the extra 3 sets of motor feedback information, and to send out the appropriate signals to control these new motors.

Well I suppose even if it were somehow, someway possible to make this work, you'd be looking at thousands of dollars for this mod, right?

Nah... just got my car and am not looking into doing anything too major for this year.

Thanks!

I wouldn't let electronics beat you. If there's something you want to do, and you really do want to do it, research, learn, do. You could modify the switch board and put in the jdm piece and button in. Get the whole jdm assembly. Shouldn't cost more than a few hundred if you do it yourself.

Don't forget about the power window controller (PWC). You'll have to build your own micro-controller board; and not only to reverse-engineering all the operation details from the OEM PWC, but also to implement 3 more sets of auto-up/down control functions.

I agree that nothing is impossible. But building and wiring a micro-controller board that can withstand the harsh automotive environment, and writing and debugging reliable program operation codes are not for anyone but the experts.

But if one insists, there's always college technical programs that one can go through in order to become competent enough to handle this task.

yeah, it wouldn't be a bad idea if you wanted to do something like this to go take a class, might cost 80-200 bucks but it would be worth it.
