Post YUMMY!

Surgery results.... I can only bend my knee about 45 degrees, and that's by forcing it.. I have a loooong way to go before it's completely bent..

That looks painful. The rehab won't be fun either. I had a similar knee sugery done long time ago. The Drs drilled three holes around my knee to inspect the joint. The swelling should go away in about 2 months.

Take care.

Thanks guys, Unfortunately this is the third time I'm doing this.. The first two were the same as this, but there were a few other procedures that needed to be done this time..

By the way, for those who were wondering what happened, my problem was that my knee cap wouldn't stay centered in place. My lateral(outer) tendon(that holds the knee cap in place) was too tight, while the medial(inner) tendon was too loose, so when I would bend my leg, my kneecap wouldn't stay centered, so if I were to walk or run, it would occasionally go out of place on it's own..It was a real pain in the ass.I had this problem since high school. Senior year I was on Varsity Basketball during practice, and my kneecap went out of place while i was casually jogging down the court. Doc said if it happens again, i would need surgery. Second time it happened a few years later, playing ball again, lightly jogging down the court again. It went out, and my knee swelled up bigger than you see there.. The first surgery was to fix the problem. The procedure was called a "Lateral Release". After the surgery, my cap went out of place again when I was at work walking..not good, I went back to the Dr. and he said my leg wasn't strong enough, to go back to therapy. I did that, and didn't have any problems after that, besides an annoying snapping sensation I had. a few years later, I went to another doctor to look at the problem and prescribe me a special brace to use for physical activities. I ended up doing surgery again to get rid of the snap. It did, for about a month and a half, then came back again, but in a different place. I went to see yet another doctor(this one seemed to be the best, from experience) and he told me if I can live with the pain, live with it, if not, do the surgery. He didn't recommend it but it was my choice. I did a Catscan with this dr.(other dr's i did MRI's). This doc wanted to see my bones, not muscles. Turned out, I had a lot of scar tissue, and a bone spur(extra piece of bone) that was causing the snapping, that the MRI would never see. He also said the Lateral release didn't look complete from the last surgery because my knee was subluxing(moving out very far) and then recommended the surgery. so now here I am. that's my story...you can wake up now..

ed,

that's pretty interesting, at the same time kinda scary. two years ago, i dislocated my left kneecap while playing raquetball. my patella migrated about two inches laterally and upward, stretching out my medial tendon. the doc said that my medial tendon was real loose, and i would also need surgery if i dislocated it again. well, it's been two years and it hasn't dislocated yet. i wear a brace whenever i play basketball or any other sport, and it seems to help. but damn, that surgery sounded painful. at least it wasn't ACL. that takes almost a year to rehab.

take care,
UCLAtl
