Question Was it your TL I smoked?

Just outside of Jacksonville, Fl on I10 about 6:00pm (about a mile past the Whitehouse exit) a Black TL blew by me in left lane doin' maybe 80mph. Then he brakes and pulls back to start pacing me (I think it was a he, but there was some tint). I saw he had an Acura-tl.com plate frame, (thus the reason I found this board).

He continues to pace me and my wife gives me the "don't even think about it" look. Between my wife's evil stare and my fear of the HP (they're wicked in FL), I slow down to right around 50 to show `em I wasn't interested. I'm also still breaking it in, so I wasn't thrilled about pushing the higher RPMs. But he wouldn't let it go.

By this time traffic is starting to line up behind him and it's clear ahead, so I gave my wife the "sorry, but I have to" look, push the chrome ball over to sport shift, drop it into 3rd and give the TL the thumbs up.

He's off first, and good golly, the TL has some wonderful speed for such a big boat. I'm very aware it has a better 0-60 time than the IS300, but he should've known better than to play with the IS300 at highway speeds. Approaching the end of 3rd, he's a half a car ahead. But once I shift to 4th, the TL's performance "left the building" so to speak, and he got a nice look at my clears before I settled into 5th. But don't get me wrong, he looked very comfortable, and I'm sure he kept reminding himself how much more practical and "luxurious" his TL was compared to the IS, and probably thanking God there weren't any corners to negotiate. That would've been ugly.

I signaled for the next exit, but he didn't follow. Anyone here gonna fess up?

Exclamation

Depending on the end of your 4th gear it could be bought, the IS is geared more agressively than the TL.

Hey, say what you want. I just want the guy to fess up.

I'm not saying my IS is all that and a bag of chips. I'm just saying the TL was the dip for my chips.

Waiting.....

Regardless of who races who, it should make for a more fun meet if he shows up.

We're all car enthusiasts, right??

Whew. I can feel the tension. Nothing against the TL. I love it. It's a great vehicle. I'm an enthusiast just like Prez, and I know a good ride when I see one. No joke.

But after doing a search across the board for the IS300, you guys can certainly dish it out. Can you also take it? I've read some very harsh words against the IS, and their owners. Not sure which one of us killed your mother, but you'd think there would be some mutual respect for other models.

Lighten up guys. Give me a date so that I can plan to pass through Florida again around that time.

You've got moxy, man!

The IS is too small and too civic looking for my tastes. But this is the first I've commented on it.

Congrats on your win, any show-off deserves to get beat no matter what he drives.

All I can say is those IS300 are excellent looking, however , someone @ the underground parkinglot @ work has a yellow IS300. What the hell was Lexus thinking when that colour was offered. It is ugggggggggggggly.

No offense, but the IS300 is a chick car. Way too small for a guy to fit into. I saw two dudes riding in an IS300 and they were practically on top of one another. Looked kinda gay to me. No matter what kind of styling it has, it is so small it looks like a toy car to me--the antenna being where you wind it up. To me, the "idea" of the IS300 is more attractive than the actual car itself.

LOL. You know you hit a nerve when the "gay" word comes out. No offense taken though.

Yeah, I sometimes need a shoehorn to get into my IS each day. And when I want out, someone pulls me by my arms until the sucking sound stops. It's a bit*h.

You know what's also small? That gap between your CL-S's front and rear seating. Do you feel yourself growing old every time you have to motor the seat forward?

Either the TL boy isn't here, or he's afraid to show his face. I'll check back every so often.

All i've gots to say is bring your IS to the Acura meet along with some of your friends for an IS vs. TL meet in Florida sometime and dude it out there. That way you can talk all the smack you want after you win.

Why? So we can run 0-60 sprints all day to prove the TLs "performance"? Anything over 3rd gear or involving an S-curve would promptly show you why they don't compare the TL with the 3 series in the car mags.

True, the IS was made to be a clone of the 3 in almost every dimension. The TL if being compared to a BMW is best compared with the 5 series 6 cylinder cars.

I don't think hardly anyone here compares the BMW 3 to the TL here.

I agree. The TL is best compared to the 5 series BMW not 3 series. Just look at the size difference.

Speaking of comparisons, the IS placed 3rd in a 6 car Sport Sedan comparison, in the Jan. Road & Track. Not a bad placement at all for a rookie. I don't consider the TL a sports sedan, but rather a sporting luxury sedan.

That's why its called a TL (Touring Luxury) I didn't buy this car to go around S-curves or to out handle a 3 series. I feel bad that a Luxury car is somewhat faster then your Sports car. But knowing Lexus they will improve the HP soon.

Agreed. I think the best is yet to come for the IS, a stick being the first welcome change. Although, I think BMW owners would be slightly offended to hear you mention a TL and 5 Series in the same sentence.

What is there to compare besides size? One is a large sports sedan, while the other is a large "sporty" sedan, in my opinion.

There is no point to compare, TL got its ups and downs, and so do the IS. Depending on what your taste is. I prefere a TL not because i owned one, just because it looks more luxury. You dont have to agree with me. On the other hand, IS is more sporty in a way. Also TL looks more mature in a way..hehe...

I am not saying this to put down the IS, but everytime I see one, I would think it is a Civic with Altezza lights. That's sad to say but it's true. Also, you are comparing a sub-compact car, like the 3 series, to a mid-size car. Of course the IS is going to handle better, it is made to do that, unlike the TL.

Each car has its pros and cons, no one here is saying the TL is a way better car than yours. We just prefer ours and that's why we bought our TLs.

One more thing, for you to come to this board and post a message like this, calling the losing TL out in a TL forum, what kind of response were you expecting to get?

Oh yeah, why are you afraid to show your email? Afraid that someone here will find out that you actually drive a Civic with Altezza lights?

Those BMW owners that would be offended, are probably just lemmings who buy a car soley to impress people that they don't like anyway. (Read: Not enthusiasts)

What's to compare? Both are midsize 5 passenger sedans powered by equally powerful 6 cylinder engines. Both offer excellent suspensions, luxurious touches. Both come from technologically advanced manufacturers that are involved in racing. Both get you from point a to b in comfort, luxury and safety.

One does the job for considerably less money than the other.
