Are your Michelin tires hydroplaning?

Today was the first day, in the 2 months that I got my car, that I had to drive in a pretty decent rain. All I can say is that I was almost scared because of how ****ty the tires are. They were hydroplaning non-stop, on the side streets and on the highway as I was on my way to work. When on the highway, the water was not bad at all, but they still were losing contact with the road all too much. I really feel like these tires shoudnt be on our cars. Its kinda pointless to have ABS, VSA, and all other safety systems on our cars if the tires are complete crap and can't even keep us safely planted on the road. Just my 2 cents.

Yup, same thing happens to me. I hate driving this car in the rain. The VSC kicks in more after I got the comptech springs installed.

I was in probably the same rain as you were, and I was driving down the road when some jerk decided to pull out into the road as I'm barrelling down it... You know the people, who sit there and DON'T go when they have enough room, but instead sit and think about it ... and then they decide to go when there isn't enough room anymore.

Well anyways, I had to slam on my brakes and the car thankfully just slowed down ... No hydroplaning, no ABS ... My tires are still pretty new though, only 3700 miles on them.

I had michelins on my old accord and my tl. They hydroplane all the time. I got sick of mechelins crappy tires. I now have yokohama's on my tl and they have v-grooves. They stick very well in the rain yesterday.

I had the stock Michelins on my TL-P and those were AWFUL in the rain. Same story with my wife's Accord, which are the same Michelin Energy Plus tires. I'm looking into new tires for the wife, and have switched to the Dunlops in my sig for my car. What was left of Isadore pummelled Cleveland yesterday, and I must say these are the best performing tires I've ever had in the rain. Of course, I've got only 6000 miles (put them on in June and I drive a lot) on the tires...

It only happens to me when ther is a big puddle in the road that I don't see. Other than that I'm fine.

I was looking at those Dunlop's as well. I eventually wanna just get some after-market rims and would try to the the stock ones with the Michelins for the winter time, but if they keep performing so terribly in the rain, Ill need to get new tires. It would be nice if everyone here who has had problems will post to that effect. I may then print this topic out and take it to my dealer to see if they will work something out.

when my car was new, I liked the Michelins in the rain. And we get some sick rains here in South Florida.

But recently the Michelins have gotten worse. I have 14,000 miles. The tread does not look worn. But when I drove in a few recent rains I noticed that I was hydroplaning a lot.

I have 9k on my stock Michelins, and I have to say they are great in the rain. In dry they are not good performance tires but work well.

You guys need to slow down in the rain anyways. Maybe that is why you all are having the problem?

Mine were giving me problems even on local streets at 45mph.

Got some Sumitomo HTR+ on my baby. They are sticky and performs really well on wet and dry pavement. Let's see how they do in snow.

I remember reading somewhere that Sumitomo tires were heavy. Is that true?

Hum...never really thought about that one. Anybody know? They usually don't list the weight of the tires as part of the spec. All I know is that they are definitely alot better than our stock POS. For $99, it's totally worth it IMO.

We've had some huge rain storms here and my tires are fine. However, when it is just wet or dry, the tires suck!

I put the same Dunlops on in the spring. I'm not saying there's not a better tire out there, but I am quite pleased with the SP 5000's so far.

This issue is one of the reasons I pulled the stock MXM4s off the car (at very low mileage) and put on some Toyo T1S proxies...

The stock tires are not very happy at speed in high water. The stock tires also are not very happy, IMO, on certain types of asphalt...

Interesting. I find my stock tires to be great in the rain. And, damn, it sure has been raining here in Orlando this summer.

I do hear many good things about the Kumho 712s, especially for the price.

Hmmm... maybe it's the acid rain, oil, glycol road mix in SoCal or perhaps the acid etching and 6” diamond cut grooves in your local roads. Whatever it was, they were all over the place and American made SUVs and station wagons were passing me on the freeway with impunity. With the Toyos (235/45-17 T1S), I feel like they have a super-glue applicator running at all times. (I hope they don't need any "pavement glue" refill cartridges anytime soon...)

I'm with you there. My T1S proxies are much better in the rain than stock.

maybe u've read my post in the general discussion topic, well in short, those pos tires almost got me killed in the rain

i was going 60km/h into a curve that's not rilly curving that bad, but i still went sideways when i cross painted area (like drifting only with all four tires loosing traction), while i was not on painted area, the car understeered and the tires hydroplaned, so literally i was going sideways all thru the turn,
