Yet another noob questioned (Problems with a ne purchase)
Yet another noob questioned (Problems with a ne purchase)
OK so I recently purchased an 02 TL. Today I noticed when braking from high speeds (started from like 90) the wheel shakes slightly. It was the first time I felt it. I then took it up to just over 60 and it happened again.
Is this significant or is it just the friction from the brakes? It kind of just makes the steering wheel shake a little not the whole car.
I also have a roadside assistance tag on my car which I called today to see if I am covered for the total care. They said they couldnt find my car in their records which is not very usual. The guy said it was normally that way if the car was oncein a fleet (rental or business) and recommended I get with the dealer ASAP about it.
This, coupled with getting the car with no manuals or codes for the car at all is starting to make me feel real ueasy about my purchase. I am getting the manuals replaced by the dealer and will force them to pay for them to dismantle the dash and get the radio and navi codes but I was told (verbally not in writing) that this was a one owner car and in great condition.
I am beginning to feel skeptical. Can anyone make me feel better of give me reason to worry? Any advice?

well the braking issue is VERY common with these cars - I would say nearly 90% + have the same issue with the stock brake setup. Basically the rotors can warp easily and/or the pads arent up to par with the weight of the car can create too much gas between them and the rotors when breaking. So you are not the only one with that issue. To remedy that, you need to get some aftermarket rotors and pads. Most use these...http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33564
well that brand anyway and have had very good luck with the stock pads or EBC greenstuff or Satisfied ceramic pads.
The codes can be easily looked up also so dont worry.

OK cool....I thought I got a prewreck. I bought the extended warranty. Will they replace the rotors under the warranty? I want to save my spending money for other mods.
I called the local Acura dealership and they said they would need to take apart my dash and look at the units to pull S/N in order to pull my codes. Is it easier than that?

Just for reassurance - I know how it feels. OU SIG is absolutley right - the stock rotors should be placed in the rectum of an Acura CEO. There shit & I suspect Acura knows it by now. I have a 99 - so 4 yrs. later they decided to knowingly sell you shitty stock rotors on a luxury sedan. Same thing happened to me. Glad you posted - i too looking to solve problem. Knew about the pads - but now thanks to OU SIG the rotor portion of my our prob. seems to be solved.
RE: Codes? I have a 99 like I said. Theres a plasric tab underneath the "coin holder" that comes off and my mech. simply plugs in the hand held device with the correct cable on the end. Perhaps yours is diffrent? I suspect not though? It takes about 15 seconds to hook up.

Should anyone have installed EBC greenstuffs over the irotors, please post specifics (i.e. ; I drive like grandma & 30k , 1yr. later no warping - no probs. OR I think city streets are paved by INDY 500 personel at night when no one is looking - 6months, 80 km. - I never stop moving - and rotors warped so badly that the vibration of the leg snapped a ligament - but my daddy is a doctor so no need to cry for me) LOL did you?
Thanks for any posts in advance.

Ok cool....I can do that.
An update on my car. I went to the dealership and explained all the things I am not happy with in my 3 wk old car. They are buying the manuals for me and they will also pay to get the car decoded or do it themselves. So thats cool. I had them pull up a carfax and I mine was off-lease. No Biggie. I was concerned it was wrecked before or it was a rental or something. That wasnt the case.
I think my first mistake was buying the car at a toyota dealership. I bought their extended "certified" warranty for an extra 1600 and the finance girl that helped me told me it was the same as a certified vehicle. So I ran over to the local Acura dealer and talked to a guy there and he said that is not the case at all. I think I got screwed. The car was still under factory warranty and since I purchased this "certified" warranty from a freakin Toyota dealership it nullified the remainder of the acura warranty.
Hell it doesnt sound right to me and my ass is chapped about it but I love the car and most everything is covered. Just by Toyota and not Acura. Sucks I lose the factory but what are you gonna do.... Know what I mean
Since the carfax came back clean I will continue to toast the local Nissan's with a smile on my face. For a luxury sedan the TL is much more powerful than I bargained for. I am ecstatic with it so far.
I gotta look into the warranty and see what mods I can do and not void it out
