Does it look like it's painted silver or is a real "earthen" type rock? Can you get a pic?

If it is I would just take the wheel off and give it a look see anyway. It could be very dangerous not to mention expensive for a new wheel rotor, caliper, drive shaft, CV joint etc, if that thing decides to lock up the wheel.

Its probably the caliper... Where is it located in teh wheel... In the front wheel its located on top left of the brake and in the rear its located on the top right of the brake.

Is that what your talking about...

The Answer

If you're talking about the rectangular pieces of metal stuck on the inside of the rim...those are the lead weights that keep the tire balanced...these are installed when you get your tires spin balanced. Mine were missing on one rim and they stuck on a new one when I went to have it spin balanced. don't remove it.!!!

You haven't been driving through the mud or off-roading have you? Just kidding, had to ask.
I'd get that checked out by a mechanic. Good luck.
