Sorry to hear about this. Yes, there are some non-driving fools out there. Hell, they dont even need to be in a car. I hit this damned pedestrian last year. He jumped in front of my car wanting an insurance claim. hehe, he didn't see the cop 2 cars behind though, and he went to jail for jaywalking and something else. I just ended up with a scuffed rim, a blown tire, and a huge dent in my hood. Dammit all.

Damn bra, sorry to hear about your loss. I know that intersection (roundabout) your talking about (native son), shit happens there alot. I think they're worse here in Colorado. My '92 Max was rearended 3 times, '97 I30 rearended 3 times, and my baby '02 Type S was hit in a parking lot with $900 damage to the rear passenger side door 5 months after I got her. This Aug will be a year The jacked-up thing about it is I know who did it, but I have no witnesses, his word against mine. I have a feeling that street justice will prevail in my matter, or could it be just a hunch i'm having.

Does it make sense that a body shop wants a signed auth. to start repairs but haven't prepared an estimate? Its a CARSTAR franchise.
I'm not a body mech. but the last time I had a wreck, I got an estimate BEFORE I had an auth. form to sign.
What's the deal?

Oh man, that sucks! I know the feeling though--got rear-ended a few months ago.
Make sure you get a referral on the body shop--you want a good shop.
Is the other party's insurance covering everything?

I have Allstate. So far the have been somewhat proactive with everything. They recomended the shop, which I ddidn't have a problem with since I did business with them before (another vehicle).
The other insurance company (Traders Ins.) called the day before and tried to imply that it may have been my fault.
I 'm like - " She came over a 5 - 6 ft wide median, and broadsided me! How can you ASSume that I was unobservant or negligent?"
I want to now if its a total, 'cause from what can see its like this:
1.) Front bumper - $295.00
2.) Drvr Side fender - 285.00
3.) Drvr Door (complete)- 850.00 est.
4.) Drvr rear door (com) - 1000.00 est.
5.) Headlight Assembly - 360.00 est.
6.) Mirror - 210.00
7.) Hood (if cant salvage)- 600.00
Total - $3600.00
This is just my estimate based on what I can see is wrong.
I haven't factored in the frame rack time, or other damage, paint or labor.
So It may end up about $5k - 7k job.
Kelly Blue book gives me $9100 in good condition w/ 127K miles, owing about $6400 on it.
So peeps, give me some commentary on my assessment of the situation...

I got tagged on the last six inches of the rear bumper of my '01. Mountaineer doing 50 in a 25 in the rain. Slight tear in one spot of his bumper cover and $8800 + in damage and both frame rails ripped off the bottom of the TL. Allstate says he just hit the sweet spot on the end of the structural bumper. Considering the damage, I barely felt it. Thoughts?

Well, the body shop called today...
$5500 for the repair but...
The car had been in a prior accident (previous owner) and the cheap beeyatch
did not do a full and proper repair according to the shop.
Verdict? - $4700 to repair that damage.
Body shop won't do the current repair w/o doing the prior damage repair first (supposedly due to some liability issue on their part.) Ins. co. is only going for their part ($5500).
All I wanted was to drive my baby, now it looks like I am well and truly f#cked...
I have no idea what to do next.
Okay, commentary (I doesn't matter what kind)...
