I raced one at the track last SAT....it had temp plates so i don't think he knew how to drive it yet.....long story short...i beat him!! only becuase i don't think he got a good start.....by the end of the 1/4 he was at my rear bumper......watch out there fast!! Same with Eclipses...turbo of course (91-98) I know... I had a 92 Talon TSI(turboAWD) zero dollar mods and your low 14's. i put an after market turbo on mine not much bigger than stock....and surprise, i pulled a 13.50..... spent $450 for a whole second gain...again watch out!!!!!

TL-S should be able to beat an auto WRX, but manual...

Depends on the driver. stock WRXs only have an advantage off a dead stop. There advantage is in the launch. on the highway you should be all set.

I know they are supposed to be dogs up at higher speeds

this doesn't add up since the turbo spools so late in one of those things. From dead stop you should have no chance. They run low 14's stock. Even an auto should take you, but at least it would be a race.

I raced one from a stoplight. It was dead even up till about 60-70 when we hit the next stoplight. I think his was manual but mine has headers.

Talking about good launch, the Audi TT Manual has a really good launch. I saw several TT (don'T know if 180HP or 220HP) with manual tranny launch very quick.

Am I wrong?

yes
but i beat a TT starting at 40mph and pulled away with my 3rd in my TL-P

btw that was a 225hp version with twin exhaust

the WRX are very fast, and extremely fast if they do some mod....

Those must be fun to mod.

My friend with an auto WRX is pissed, because I always spank him, from a stop or rolling ... doesn't matter. He's thinking of trading it in for a stick, but then it really matters on how good he can launch. With him, even if he had a stick, I'm confident I can still take him.

Stock VS Stock, WRX stick would take on TLS... with minor mods... well, it's bye-bye TLS... But then again, WRX is much less luxurious.... hehe...

Off the line the WRX will take a car or 2 0 - 60. 60 to 100 you will catch him and after that its all you. If you catch 1 on the highway you will definitely beat it. STOCK vs STOCK of course.

On the highway, my TL-S always takes my friends manual WRX. But off the line.....different storry.....there's nothing like all wheel drive clutch drops at 5000 RPM'S!!!

Your right about that!!! In my talon TSI i used to launch at about that 4500-5500...It would launch so hard that the windshield wipers would come on....and i would have to reach up and turn them off between gear shifts.......

I own them both

My wife drives an 02 TL type S with Nav. I drive an 02 WRX. We bought them both new in February and March respectively. My wifes is stock and mine used to be stock. You can see pictures of them at:

http://members12.clubphoto.com/ben58...r-324b-1.phtml

Let me know if the link doesn't work.

Stock in the Type S the best time I could pull was a 15.2
Stock in the WRX the best time I could pull was a 13.7

I have tricked the snaught out of my WRX.
Last time at the track I ran a 12.4. My 0-60 ft time was 1.61

Were those stock times on a Gtech? Those times seem too low for both cars

maybe the

cars were running a a quaerter mile from a 50 mph rolling start down hill :>) Yeah, the rex has some serious potential with just a boost controller. But the 14.2 seems low for a TLS.

Yes that was stock, at sea level and about 55 degrees. About 1/4 tank of gas in each car. I don't know what to tell you, but that is what it ran. I do not have a reason to lie. Maybe my wife just got a really strong S from the factory.

WRX is a killer, it's whole purpose is to beat the EVO and be an all out sports car. WRX> TL anything in speed.

Holy cow, sorry guys. I didn't even notice that I put the wrong time in for the TLS. It was a 15.2 not a 14.2. My bad.

True and False... WRX STi was meant to be EVO competitor... US Spec WRX is way detuned... and FALSE... WRX runs out of steam after 120mph or so......

AKRY, You are right on the money about the STi. But you are a little off with your speed. A stock WRX starts to run out of steam at 131. It will do 131 in 4th at redline, but when you put it into fifth, there really isn't much more you will get out of it.

Throw some mods on it though and 4th becomes a very short gear while 5th will peg it against the rev limiter (if you have one)
