Wow.. is this unusual?

Yes, I've seen lots of gas mileage threads, but I haven't came across a number quite as high as the one I just got.

496 miles, and filled up 15.3 gallons.

100% highway, temp around 70, 2002 TL-P with 37,500 miles, new Goodyear Eagle LS tires at 32psi, straight and flat interstate, cruise set between 70-80 driving from Northwest GA to Savannah - NO VTEC involved in all 496 miles. RPMs between 2000 and 2250.

Is it just the already great potential of the TL combined with near perfect conditions that yielded this result?

BTW - this was running 87 octane.

I'd love to see those kinds of numbes running on the highway. my 02-TLS/Nav gets city driving for the most part, but i still get a little less than 300 miles/tank. Which I guess isn't too bad for mostly city driving. I'm planning to drive to Texas this summer, so I'll test it out. Can't wait!

Ya I have gotten similar numbers a few times. When I drive highway only, but I always go 75-85 mph so I usually have to fill up at abotu 430 miles.

Wow, that's amazing. But not impossible. On my way back from the Toronto meet, I averaged 28 mpg, and that was with hitting VTEC several times, and cruising at about 2600 RPM.

My 2000 TL-P was significantly better than My 2003 TL-S. I could easily run in the low 30s mpg on the interstate. 29 mg is tough with my 2003. Mabe its the larger and heavier wheels and tires on the TL-S that cost more mpg.

My car performs no differently on 87 than 93. In mostly city driving, I get 330-340 miles per tank. On the highway, if I drive somewhat aggressively, I get 390-400. Driving completely sensibly, I got 496. The TL being able to get in the 30s is pretty amazing. I get better gas mileage in the TL than my old Accord four-cylinder on the highway.

The best gas mileage I have ever observed was 35.9mpg. Was traveling 70mph. I only use 91 octane. That the best we can get in CA for $2.83/gal

Done that or even 33 mpg before on 87 octane in the '03 TL.

The tall 5th gear really helps in the TL.

I hear ya there- My '93 accord may get 30 on all hwy driving with a 2.2L. The main difference is it is a 4 speed and revs quite a bit higher at hwy speeds. That 5th gear really keeps the rpms down- although it would be nice if it was as reliable as their 4 speed autos

Then again, it's hard to resist using the muscle of the TL. It's no TL-S, but the power is more than adequate... and I love the sound of the J32. It's symphonic. I spent a week with a TSX recently while my TL had the dashpad replaced and oil jet kit installed on the transmission, and the TSX didn't do any better on gas.

Our 05 Accord V6 coupe does okay on gas, but not as good as the TL on the highway. It's a little quicker, but the TL's engine sounds more aggressive, and the TL handles better. For the record, any of you considering 7th Gen Accord V6s - they handle like shit.
