Worth the extra $$??
All,
I'm a poor federal government employee, and will be looking for a new used car in the coming months. I figure my budget would be around $15K-18K. Do you think it's worth getting an older model TL or better to go with a new Accord V6. I realize this is Acura's space, but they are somewhat similar.
Thanks for your time.

According to Edmunds, a '99 TL with normal mileage and no navi goes for about $22,000. You might be able to find something in your range, but it would have to have a lot of miles on it to knock the price down by $4000.
It looks like you are looking at an Accord, which is still a great car. If you want new though, an Accord V6 LX starts at about $20,000, so you should probably look at either a new 4 cylinder Accord or a Accord V6 that's a couple years old. Good luck, and let us know what you decide.

Before I bought the TL, I had a '91 Legend and an '99MB C280 Sport. I sold my Legend b/c it was in a major accident and got the MB, but I got rid of that after a week b/c I didn't like the rough suspension and super high price tag. So I decided I just want a regular car, and I went to get a New Accord. So if I were you I would definitely get an Accord. Try to get a 2001 or even a 2000 if there is any left. You could get a good deal on them. Just get the LX with leather, it's the same as EX, you won't miss anything. Maybe sunroof or auto climate control.

I would get the TL 1999-up w/ 5sp sport shift. I just had 2000 TL which I sold about 2 weeks ago & its really a awesome car. Its pretty fasttooo and come with full option. If try to shop around I'm sure you could find a good deal. Also shop for good interest rates. That makes lots of difference since you are on a tight budget.

I noticed in your profile you are from Silver Spring. I am in Gaithersbrug, just bought a 2000 TL two days ago. I would say if you can stretch your budget a bit you might be able to get a 99 TL in the 20K to 21K. If you are interested in an older TL, we saw a 97 with low miles (36K) very well maintained, she was asking 19K for it, I know she would go down as low as 18.5K you might want to try 18K. The car we had seen included extended warranty thru 2004/100K miles. Before my dad got his 2000 TL we were seriously considering that, but in the end went with the newer model.
I don't know what most people think of the previous generation TL's but when we test drove it, it was great. I might still have their number somewhere, let me know if you are intersted and I can find it for you, or e-mail me.

I personally like the 94 - 95 Legends. If you can find one with low miles that would be my choice. Best car Acura ever built in my humble opinion, especially the GS 6-speed. Also, if you are not interested in modding how about the 96-98 Gen 1 TL's?
Realistically though, if you need a warranty get a new or almost new Accord. Financing is better, too.
All are good cars. Good luck and let us know.
