Wiper Blade Problems

Wiper Blade Problems
Hi! I'm new here, and I was hoping someone could give me some advice. My husband bought a 2002 TL-S about a month ago. He soon noticed the wipers smearing, so we returned to the dealer to have them replaced. A couple of weeks later, during a heavy rain, the wipers came apart, causing deep scratches in the windshield.
We went back to the dealer, who re-installed the wipers and said that they must have been improperly installed by his mechanic. He offered to have the scratches buffed out or the windshield replaced if necessary.
I'm wondering if we will have any future problems with the windshield if these scratches are buffed out. Would it be better to push for a new windshield?
Thanks!

I sound like that McLaughlin Group guy...The answer is: It depends!
1) If scratches are just superficial, they can be buffed out. A simple way to determine this is to get some Bon Ami - put a little on a wetted sponge and try to polish out the scratch - it is comes out, let them buff the rest
2) If not, gert a new windshield
3) Here's a success strategy to show you know something they likely do not - Point out casually that "the windshield is a load bearing part of the airbag system (which it is), and you will need a letter from Acura stating that there is not safety downside to buffing out the windshield. This will show the dealer you have got the smarts, and they are usually too lazy to bother with contacting Acura, and will just write off thre windshield replacement.
Insist on an Acura- genuine part - some of the aftermarket windshields are really sub-par and have obvious wavy lines in them.

You haven't been working government contracts by any chance, have you RoadRage?

Thank you all for the great advice and the warm welcome.
I tried the Bon Ami, and it made no difference, so the scratches must be pretty deep.
I definitely will insist on a new Acura windshield, and I will bring up the safety issue. It's a much stronger case than merely saying, "Well, you guys screwed up, so give me what I want!"
I'll let you all know how it turns out.

Good luck Prunella!
Fight them tooth & nail, a mistake like that should have never have been made by a "Factory Trained Technician", that type of mistake is only permissable by Joe Shmoe the next door neighbor and even then there is no excuse.

i would let the dealer handle everything, so if anything happens then you will not be blamed for any of it. let them polish/buff/whatever it needs so that you are never at fault from start to finish.
