Winshield blues

2003 TLS with a roughly 1/2 inch x 1/2 inch chip with cracks spreading on the lower passenger side. Looking for a quality job done with OEM parts. Vehicle down time is of no concern.

1) What's the average cost to replace the windshield at the dealer (in NYC)?

2) What's the average cost to replace the windshield at a specialty shop?

3) I have the FSM that shows the detailed procedure. Opinions on feasibility for a technically inclined person who has worked on this car before?

Thanks all, enjoy the weekend!

go to any of those glass shops set up in former gas stations
in Ca they average $100-125 for a TL front glass with tint stripe
Yes its the right glass, approved, safety, all that

at formal glass shop $350+
dealer--sends to glass shop and adds 30% for doing nothing!!

Note: there is usually one supplier to all the glass shops in the area,
doesnt matter who calls- they get the same glass~

figure an hour down time for actual remove clean and install,
plus let it sit in the sun to cure the glue/sealant the rest of the day

DIY? not worth it for the seal and risk factor

check with your insurance, in florida we have a law about front windshields that few people know about, they get changed for free through your insurance, doesn't have to be a full coverage policy, replaced not repaired, and it doesn't count against you as a claim

They normally come to you with a new windshield too and replace it at your home.

Hmm... That can't be the OEM glass. The OEM glass costs like 350 for the part.

The OEM glass is way soft. I have replaced 2 already from scratches and chips.
And I replace my wiper blades a lot!
