Windshield on '03 TL-S has tons of dings?
I have an '03 TL-S which I got in May of 2002. It has about 5,000 miles on it. The windshield has one crack in it about 1/2" long and has a bunch of little dings in it. At first I thought the little dings were just dirt, but they are little holes in the glass. I mostly drive the car back and forth to work and sit in NY traffic going and coming. I have done some higher speed highway driving on the weekends, but nothing crazy. Has anyone else been experiencing this problem and if so, has anyone gone to the dealer about it? Would something like this be a defect and therefore covered under warranty or would it be considered to be regular wear and tear? I had a Jeep Cherokee before the TL and that windshield was practically at a 90 degree angle and I did not get as much chipping. Any ideas? Thanks.

My guess would be that this is more of an insurance issue then a dealer issue. I would go through your insurance first. I know glass is covered with a zero deductable on my car... and they even come to you to fix it.
If your insurance won't do anything about it... only then would i go to the dealer to see what they can do. I think they're really limited on an item like this.. but who knows...

I have this same problem. It seems to me that these TL windshileds are much more susceptable to rock chips than perhaps other windshields?? I have so many small 'chips' in the glass from driving on the freeway that its beginning to make it difficult to see out of the darn thing. I only have 17K miles on my car. Strange huh?
I had only 1500 miles on my 03 TL-S when a truck kicked up a very small rock that managed to hit my windshield. The impact point was the size of a bebe pellet and hit my windsheld half an inch from the edge of the glass. The next day, there was a crack a foot and a half long that went across my driverside window. I'd have to agree that TL windshields must be made of some sort of crappy material.

TOTALLY AGREE
I feel you man!
I too have a crack on my windshield.
took it to dealer, the guy spotted the tiniest "ding" on it then told me it was "wear & tear" deal.
I guess ACURA had to cut some cost to make the car relatively "affordable" by using different or cheap windshield glasses. ( is there different types of glasses? like expensive watches that come with non-scratch mineral glass?) oh well...
still luv my TL tho!

Why does everyone blame Acura for anything that happens to their car. This is silly. Glass is glass. No manufacturer uses the type of crystal glass used in good watches. If you don't follow too close behind trucks,or cars, then this won't happen. Give Acura a break, they build great cars, and can't be responsible for dings in the windshield. Hey if you don't want wear and tear on you're car, don't drive it. Put it in the garage and look at it.
I have 9k on my car, only had it for two months now, and so far havent noticed much on the winsheild, but i do a lot of hyway driving, maybee just like the rest of the probs that have happend with our cars, some got one set of glass and others got worse set who knows. and to add to JETJOCK, in a way it is Acuras fault, cause their goal as a manufactorer is to produce a product at the LOWEST possible cost and make the HIGHEST possible profit on it, so for them to use cheeper glass to finish off the car and still be able to sell it at the low point of the luxury tree of cars and be able to sell so many is a posetive marketing tool, if they used more expensive parts, and the price of the car would be 40k then all of us would be driving BMW's
pianoman41 & JetJock are correct its just the way the cookie crumbles or the windshield cracks. Some cracks are notice more than others. Others will spread overtime on the windshield & others may not spread.
No paint chips or windshield cracks thus far on my '03. Remind me to go out and knock on fake wood!
I personally think this is more of a driving style issue than glass quality. I never drive behind or next to a Semi or large truck. I keep my distance from other cars and try to avoid driving in the far left lane by mediums as this is where alot of debree collects and could possibly get kicked back to you.
Just gotta be careful....

on my 02 AV6 I don't have any chips from rocks or anything, but there are minute "spots" in the glass, going all the way around the car, on every window. No.....it's not stuff that can be cleaned off, it appears to be "inside" the glass if that is possible. There is absolutely no way to get it off, and it's kinda frustrating..you can only notice them in certain lights, but it really pisses me off, especially since I am a detailing freak! At first when I saw them I though it might be tree sap or something, but it's not, it looks like imperfections in the glass. I'm not sure if this is the same problem you are having or not, but it is definately annoying.
