Windows rattle
Windows rattle
Brought my car in to the dealers today to fix the squeaking seat buckles and window rattle. They fixed the seats but have no idea why the windows rattle. Did anybody who had this problem get it fixed? I only hear it on freeway speeds and it sounds like its touching metal or something. Any help is appreciated...

Hey Martin,
Your tapping noise sounds like what I had. It's not the window, they ended up replacing my whole sun roof assembly just to find out that it was a loose bushing in the track. You may want to mention it to them, but it's alot of work to get to. They may try to say that it's normal and that they can't do anything about it.

I had the same problem too.. I took it to the dealership twice and they couldn't fix it.. so I said screw it and tried to fix it myself.
Turns out it is a very easy 10 min fix. the tapping comes from where the sunroof is attached to the slider mechanism.
first, figure out which corner is doing the tapping.. mine was the right-rear mounting bolt.
then take off the plastic cover that covers the 2 bolts on each side. there is one screw is covered by a little plastic piece. pop that out and unscrew the screw and the cover will pop out.
you will see two bolts that hold the moonroof glass on. loosen the nut on the corner that is causing the rattle a little and put a piece of felt (or I had an extra piece of velcro) between where the 2 brackets touch. and retighten the nut and the piece felt will stay without glueing.
it sounds hard, but once you start you will see how easy it is. I cant believe I lived with that tapping for SO LONG!! it helps alot if you pick a time when you can re-create the rattle by softly tapping on the glass
hope this helps.. later

I got the same exact problem. They don't know what it is, but its definately not the sunroof. I can only hear the sound when I roll my windows down or up and after a while, there are little black spots on the windows. You get that too?
