Talking Window Tint!!!

Hey guys, I just got my TL

And I wanna tint the window,
but I don't know how much percent and what kind of tint is best.

I really dont know much about window tinting. My car's Silver with black inerior. I live in Washington and I think 35% all around is maximum you can get right? Correct me if i'm wrong. I know there are tons of tint kinds. What would look best with silver? Pictures will help me alot

Gimme some tips...=)

I know my color is different but it gives you an idea. I use Llumar metal paper. Very good rejecting heat and best of all, you can see perfect at night, hope it helps. 35% front, 20% back and rear.

I have silver exterior color and black interior on my TL-S. I shopped around and found that most tint places carry Llumar made by CPfilms Inc. In the end I went with 3M scotchtint. In the past I have used Quantum metallic film on my Accord Coupe and had excellent results, i. e no cracking and fading. Shop around and go with a good name brand that comes with a good warranty and a professional Tint shop that has been in the business for a long time and you should be alright.

On all of my previous cars, I had a specific shop ONLY put 3M on it. It costs a little more but the ones I got had lifetime warranties. In all the cars I never once had a hint of trouble. I feel they would've lasted for ever. Either way, I would've gotten it replaced for free

I know 3M is great. My TLS came with the tint so I'm hoping the dealer didn't go with some cheap tint.

Hey even though the rumor is 35% is legal, in NJ no tint is legal as far as the police are concerned. My boy got a 01 CL wich HAD 35% tint all around, he got pulled over and the cop made him rip it off right then and there. So if they want to mess with you they will. SO can someone verify that the limit is 35% cuz if it is I'll get some thrown on.

In New Jersey you can tint the rear doors and back but not the fronts. Chech the link below for tint law in all states.

anokha786: I saw one silver with the same tint that I have and it looks great, remember that our cars have a green factory tint and that mixed with the silver gives it a special tone that looks different than anything else around. I think it look VERY good.

Did you guys tint the window at store of by yourself?
If you did it by yourself, how did you do that?
I want to tint my window, but I want to do it by myself if I can.

Whats the best percentage for looking good but being able to see out at night in a dark area. I want to tint but not too dark. I was thinking 50% so it looks good, but I can see out at night in dark areas. Also COPS. Is 35% pretty dark. I have a silver car with black leather interior.

I have an identical car to yours and I have what I think is 5% in the back (not sure, came like that already) and I got 35% put in on the front doors. Because the interior is black, the front looks darker than it really is. Makes me a little nervous because of the cops but I haven't had any problems yet. I think if you don't want it too dark but still want it to look nice, 15-20% for the rears and maybe 50% for the front would work. The black interior will make that combo look just right. If you can find a shop with 42% (the one I went to had this one but I went with 35% anyways), that would look better as opposed to 50%. I'll try to post some pics tomorrow so you can see for yourself.

Thanks brother I don't want a diff % on the sides. All 50% or all 35%. A choice I have to make. Originally I figured 50% on all the sides would be better then no tint, and keep the cops off my ass. I wasn't going to have the rear done, but I guess it will look stupid if I don't. I think 50% on all the windows with black interior might be the best idea. I can always have it re-done next year if I feel safe. If I get pulled over with 50%, I guess I won't change. Is a ticket for tint in IL. just like a parking ticket? Just pay and its ok? I don't want insurance troubles.

I live in IL too...On my last car, I had 20% on the rears and 50% on the fronts. I really liked that look, and it's what I am having installed Monday on my TL-S. I have sat at lights next to cops with that setup and had them nod 'good morning' to me without having any problems. Next to the dark rears, the fronts appeared so light the cops never bothered me. It looks tinted but you can see the driver through it. Yet it was quite a bit darker than no tint, and from the right angle the whole car looked pretty dark. Just my .

Since we're in the same area, if you want to check mine out after Monday you are welcome to contact me.

well, i am in atlanta and i had 20% all around...had it for the past 4 years, but one cop decided to pull me over and give me a ticket...after talking to tint installers, what ive learned is that it all depends on the cop...and also insurance isnt affected because its a non-moving violation, but the penalty does get steeper each time you get pulled over for it...so instead i had mine changed to 35% ceramic based tints (llumar atr axcess is what its called, or something like that)...ceramic is supposed to be the highest quality tint because it doesnt affect any electronic signals and also does a better job of blocking out heat...and im pretty happy with 35%, not too dark and maintains a classy look..thats just my

Thanks much for your opinions. I think I will get 35% on all the windows, except the windshield of course.

Talking

A little late but here goes...

the front door 35%....

and the back door 5%?......

and some random pics

Unfortunately it seems that the comparison pictures for the different tints between the doors look like they're the same percentage. I guess I'm not a good photographer. Trust me the back ones are much darker.

The tint needs to dry completely. If you open the window right away you'll probably ruin it because the weatherstrip at the bottom of the window will catch the film and wrinkle/tear it up. You have to let it dry. Quick way is to leave it in the sun as much as possible for a few days.

i opened it fully by accident the day after i had it tinted and it looks normal. the weather strip didnt seem to wrinkle or rip anything. should i not have tow orry anymore? i was more worried that bubbles wouldnt settle

I wouldn't chance it though, you might have just gotten lucky. Especially if you paid good money to have it done. You don't want to risk ruining it. The bubbles in mine took about a week to completely disappear. Let it dry a few more days and you should be ok.

Go to Accutint in Bellevue, hands down the best tint shop in Washington and their prices are fair as well. They are right behind the Porsche dealer.

I don't actually live in Seattle anymore, moved to Tacoma about 6 months ago. I still work in Seattle though, Georgetown. If you want a good tint job I would highly recommend Accutint, yes they aren't cheap, fair though. In the end you want peace of mind and you will get that with accutint. The tint shop you mentioned in your earlier post I have heard about and it wasn't stellar by any means, so make sure you get what you really want.
