Post Window control recall: Important Read!

This just may save you some aggravation.

Went to the dealer today to have the window power unit and seat belt buckle recall done.

When the car was handed back to me, I found that the auto up/down was not working! Much apologizing and right back to the service bay - 30 mins later, I look and three guys are standing around talking and scratching heads - they all believe the power control (new unit!) is defective, and a new one will be ordered.

A few minutes later, an older fellow (Asian) walks over, smiles and says "You have to program it." He reaches over to the auto button, pulls it up for about 5 secs, and releases it - wham, Auto up/down functional.

Apparently, for safety issues or to allow for personal preferences, the unit has to be initialized to do the Auto function.

So if this happens to you, walk back there, do what the technician did, and you will be forever a legend in your dealer's service community.

Thanks for the info. Although I've already had my window control unit replaced, it's a good thing to keep in mind and try if it should stop working in the auto mode for some reason. Appreciate it!

Thanks for the tip and just goes to show that it's always handy to have an Asian around! LOL! We know our stuff!

Maybe the first technician should be sent back to training...

Must have been real dunces. I have a copy of the window switch recall notice and the instructions for installing the new switch; got 'em when I had mine done this week. The instructions instruct the tech under item #9 of the Repair Procedure sheet that the window switch must be "initialized". Guess your first three techs couldn't read; they'd do fine for government work though
